W09 Review:

By tobin4 on July 11, 2014

Wow! I cannot believe it is week 9 already. First of all, well done on your topic of Social Media. I really appreciated working in the Edmodo environment and found it similar to Facebook so I was immediately comfortable even thou it was new to me. I also enjoyed how we could play around and go through the posts to see the tasks. It is interesting to consider that when tasks are listed on a website page I find that everything has to be laid out for me step-by-step for me, but in the Edmodo I didn’t mind just going through posts and finding the tasks. It kind of shines light on how we interact differently with social media. We are use to kind of jumping around and returning to older posts, the environment is so much less linear in a sense. I appreciated the post on the History of Social Media as it filled in a lot of information that I did not know. The wheel activity also was great in a sense that you let us explore and pick a social media from the wheel. I came across a number of different applications that I have never seen before and the activity broadened my thinking on what constitutes as social media. For me the only suggestion I have involves Activity #2 where you ask ETEC 522 students to join Twitter. I already have a Twitter account that I do not use very much due to privacy issues such as tweets being repackaged and forwarded to third parties. I know a number of people who are not into using this social media application and maybe having this activity being optional or having other social media apps available for sharing resources might work as well. Thank you so much for your hard work! This weeks learning experience was very beneficial.
