W09 Review

By leahbio on July 12, 2014

Hello Group 9,

Great way to introduce social media to all of us.  I especially enjoyed working through Edmodo and your assignments.  This was a new experience for me, working in Edmodo.  I can see the implications of its use and will try using it with my students this week.  They are language learners and I think it would be a great opportunity for them to collaborate and for me to post Assignments in a similar fashion to how you introduced our weekly tasks to us.  I especially enjoyed the visually interactive sites, visual websites and the article on student engagement within social media, in particular Facebook. I enjoyed learning about different social media, ones in which I have not encountered before.  My biggest concern and still is today is privacy.  It is one of the reasons I only joined Twitter for your assignment.  Having personal information and thoughts online is still a concern for me.  I do wonder about privacy and digital citizenship with regard to how our students use Social media.  The laws and regulations of online citizenship is continually evolving and hasn’t quite caught up yet to the growing number of sites available to us.  That being said, I love and understand how different Social media forums are wonderful for collaboration, learner autonomy and can lend to some interesting authentic assessment opportunities for educators to expose learner’s to.  Thank you Group 9 for an interesting and engaging week of activities pertaining to Social media within a social media forum! Great idea!  Cheers

Leah
