W10 Review – Analytics

By leahbio on July 21, 2014

Hi Group 10,

Great work! Your four activities and OER were engaging and informative. I ended up doing all your activities in one day and found it very easy to follow. I liked that you had quick, informative videos linked to each activity page to give some background information. The combination of the visuals, infographics and audio all helped me in understanding analytics better, as your topic is of interest and new to me. I especially liked the Overview page with the visual icons matching the steps of how the learning Analytics model works from data acquisition to Action. I especially see the relevance and importance to both administrators and school staff Analytics can be for various needs or questions through your contextual activity. It made the concept more concrete for me. It’s wonderful it can be used for adapting to learners needs and using the data to aid with any school concerns or issues. My school and board have already used D2L for various assessment concerns especially with learners with learning challenges. I am especially keen in seeing the results for this and whether or not D2L is an appropriate program for our students. The challenges you addressed were of particular interest. The one that hit home with me the most was dealing with privacy and ethical concerns. I hope to add an additional article on our class blog about these growing concerns with analytics. I also liked being able to reply to others responses within your OER to get a discussion going on the various topics or activities. well done!
Cheers, Leah
