A3: JIBO Venture Pitch

By peteo on August 4, 2014

Hi Everyone: I have decided to take a real life product and extend the investment pitch forward with my presentation on JIBO. Enjoy!

Please go to this site:

www.jiboventurepitch.com

This is a site that I created and it is an actually domain and hosting space that I purchased to ensure that this can live on in the future.

Sorry, for those who need some reflection, I have included it in “Implications for the Future – Reflection” on the website.

I have decided to choose this product, as I believe firmly that the future of robotics for learning purposes is here. Its a venture that I think inspired me because it did include learning applications and practical functionality in the home that would assist everyone to function and learn content more quickly and effectively. The educational application of this product may not be apparent right a way, but there are applications that JIBO has for learning and its interesting in that the application itself is learning alongside us, from us. The learning takes place on two levels, and we become student and teacher as well. It’s interesting that this type of device or robot friend will serve us soon and we will serve it in an interesting way that will react and make our lives more fulfilling. Robotics has always been a field that I wanted to explore and this field of social robotics is growing rapidly, and this concept of home social robots will take off in the near future. It is on the verge of expansion and I definitely can see many applications for this device which is why I fervently decided to create a pitch for it. Hopefully you will find the information relevant and convincing.

Thank you!

Peter 🙂

What a well put together website. It is very apparent that you spent a decent amount of time assembling this site as well as thought into what would be valuable. It is very professional looking and offers a variety of mediums which makes it appealing to look through and read. I found some sections to have a lot of writing, perhaps you could do some voice over for those long parts, but otherwise your data is concrete and convincing. I like the pictures added as it make the site feel more personal. Overall, I enjoyed exploring all the information that you very clearly researched. A job well done!

Feedback: Hi Peter, Thank you for sharing this interesting and innovate product! Robotics is an interesting topic and JIBO is a fascinating idea and product. I enjoyed your elevator pitch, but would agree that the spaceship was a little bit distracting from your message. The website you designed for the venture is fantastic - very professional, informative, and visually appealing. I really like how you provide the four different packages in the "call to investors" section. Your website is comprehensive and really covers all the bases. Thanks so much for sharing :)

Hi Cwc1 I am sorry about the beeps, I tried to eliminate them from my computer i couldn't do it. I have an extremely old computer and I have tried on several occasions to get rid of it. I tried to provide something different in the elevator pitch, i like to dramatize things and make it interesting! We are always boring with our pitches, so in order to make it more interesting, you need to make it enticing to watch!

REVIEW: Hi Peter. To begin, I thought that the design and layout of your site was extremely professional looking and visually attractive, and I thought that the way you did your elevator pitch was interesting and innovative (although I agree that the beeps were annoying). I also think you've chosen an excellent market for growth potential; as people become more connected, I can see the market for relational artifacts/social robots being an extremely lucrative market. In addition, I think the rationale you provided for why Jibo is an excellent investment was sound. RECOMMENDATION: I would definitely invest in your product.

Feedback: Hi Peter, this was an interesting venture to look at. I had never heard of Jibo before so I was in unfamiliar territory with robotics. Because of that I appreciated that you included an overview of the product and its potential. I thought your website was well designed and I appreciate the effort you put into creating two videos and the website. It did take me some time to find your elevator pitch - mostly because at first I didn't take the time to scroll down to the bottom of your first page.

If this was presented on Dragons' Den, I would be the one to turn it down. It looks like most of the reviews are very positive so I am going to add some (hopefully constructive) criticism. I think the content of your video pitches was okay but the format was not. In the first one I'm not sure what the spaceship had to do with the product and the beeping was very annoying. You have a nice speaking voice though, get rid of the fluff and just talk. Same with the venture pitch, don't scroll the website, either just talk to do a very simple slideshow type presentation with a voice over. Visually your website was easy to follow and was fairly interesting. I'm not a designer but I would change in your serif font for a sans serif. A sans and a serif font don't look good together. Online, sans serif looks much neater and cleaner. Now that I look more closely the font is sort of a mix, I would still go with a simpler font. I'm not clear on what new direction you are taking this product in. I would also be concerned about copyright unless you got permission from the creators of JIBO.

Feedback: This was a very professional looking website and an interesting topic. I watched the elevator pitch and liked that you provided a choice to watch the video or view the website. I agree with Jonathan that it might be helpful to move the links to the elevator pitch and venture pitch at the front of the website, but I still found them pretty fast. I thought it was a good idea to lay out the different investment options. Perhaps I missed this somewhere, but I was not sure what the different direction was that you were taking with the product, but I still liked it and thought it was really well presented. You are a really great web designer!

Review:  I enjoyed your elevator pitch. It was original and enticed me to watch all the way through and then find out more.  The futuristic look of your video caught my eye as well. Your site was visually appealing and it was obvious immersed yourself in understanding the product and its potential. It was evident that you throughly researched the company. The background information was helpful especially as this is a new field and has a someone science fiction feel to it - although it is evident they've got a working model. I appreciated your Investment Potential Highlights. As an EVA this gave me a good sense of the market, current funding and future plans. You clearly explored the product, what made it special above its competition. Your 8 minute pitch gave me a solid overview of all the features, the market potential and demand. One suggestion would be to only have the beeping at the beginning and end. Other than that very well done! BTW: I thought the addition of the "Jibo Call to Investors" was a nice touch - outlining opportunities for investors in a clear graphic gave me a clear overview of what you need and how I can get involved.  I'd invest in this cool tool!

REVIEW - Hi Peteo, First off I would have included the link to the page where both your elevator pitch and your venture pitch are located to make it easier for others to go directly to, instead of reading all the background information. With that said, even though you’re elevator pitch was enough to interest me, it was really the website and background information that really sold it for me. I think JIBO is an awesome product with tremendous potential especially in Asia! I like the four different investment options and would definitely pick one of them. However, I did not find either of your pitches to be very compelling even though the content was enough to interest me and further investigate. I think your website is strong enough to stand on its own without the video venture pitch. Finally, it was not clear to me how you are involved or what your role is in this company other than as a promoter. Thanks for introducing me to JIBO!

FEEDBACK: Hi Peter, I really enjoyed the images and information that you provided throughout your presentation, it was well structured, researched and informative. This was a creative pitch that seemed to address a variety of uses or gaps that it filled, but I did not feel like you sold it - it seemed to generic, not special or unique to be apart of something unique to have a robot. Just thought... sometimes I think it is important to show how a product makes the investor or the buyer different, unique, or how it brings an exclusiveness to them. Thanks! Great job, loved the website!
