Home Stretch

By Kate L. on September 8, 2015

I have been anticipating this course with glee since I started the MET program.  Like all adult learners (or any learner actually) I want to read, and watch, but mostly I want to DO and CREATE things with technology.  Now I am almost finished this program, I also want to share and collaborate. That is where the excitement is.

In addition to this semi-last course, I am doing an independent study: ETEC 580.  In this research project I am investigating quality in online courses in higher education by: (1) surveying the literature on quality attributes; (2)  surveying individuals to see, of the known quality attributes of online courses, which ones are instructional designers and instructors of online courses actually incorporating, and; (3) doing follow up interviews to find out what the barriers are to incorporating quality features.  My suspicion lies in the lack of faculty development so I like to create ways for faculty to learn about technology. Whew.

During daylight hours, I am the Director of State Authorizations for Distance Education at a medical university in South Carolina. I also work on accreditation and am part of a team trying to convert a F2F course to online (which I have done number of times) and am a general techy for too many years. I am actually a dual citizen (CAN-US) but don’t do well in snow.

Happy to see many of you again, and others for the first time!
