My name is Laura Hall and this is my fifth course and second elective course in the MET program. I am eager to start a new term engaging and interacting with the MET community of learners to continue my journey in the field of education technology.
I am an Elementary School teacher and I also work for a small project management company. It has always been my passion to find new and unique ways to communicate and share information with students of any age to help create a community of learning. Currently I work in the North Vancouver School District (#44) as a full-time, grade 7, Late French Immersion teacher. My part-time work is for Antares Project Services as their Executive Assistant, Website Developer and Technical Writer.
I am taking this course in order to gain a better understanding of not only what it means to be a pioneer in the world of education (or with an education background) and how to approach this step of moving into a pioneer role. My hopes for the class are that I continue to deepen my understanding of technology in order to create a more engaging and practical environment for my students along with some practical knowledge on ways to pursue ventures in learning technology. Currently, I am working towards my PMP (Project Management Professional) Certificate at my part-time job and I hope that this course helps me to gage if this is an avenue I would like to pursue further.
My favourite things are surfing, hiking and cooking! If I’m not found studying, typically I can be found on the side of a mountain or in the ocean somewhere trying to soak in the natural beauty of BC. I attached this picture of myself up in Tofino on a surf weekend trying to get some work done for one of my MET courses. What I love about this photo is that it shows that technology has facilitated anywhere, anytime learning!
I look forward to working with you all over the next several weeks!
Laura
