Hello to all my ETEC 522 ad”venture”rs. My name is Cathy Fowler and this is my 10th and last MET class!! I took ETEC 590 this summer but could not fit in an elective…and I really wanted to take Ventures in Learning Technologies so I delayed finishing until now. I am a Teacher-Librarian at an Elementary school in Nanaimo, BC. I love being able to visit the great outdoors on this amazing island simply by walking out my door…the ocean, lakes, mountains, trails, wildlife and forests are no more than a few minutes walk or bike ride from where I live. I live with my two daughters ages 20 and 15 and my three small, but big-in-heart dogs.
My goal with taking ETEC 522 is to gain some much needed insight into the business and ventures aspects of educational technology. I have always approached technology as a wide-eyed and eager consumer, but not often enough as a critic. Unfortunately my entrepreneurial skills have not been developed over the years of my education but, as I near the end of my Master’s degree I am looking to the future and what that might mean for me. I am very interested in learning about developing my ideas to the point of presenting a proposal and perhaps even a Kickstarter campaign.
My focus areas in technology are digital storytelling and diversified learning, which I think go hand-in-hand. I would like to develop a product that incorporates those focus areas that assist teachers in meeting the needs of all students through providing individualized learning.
Really doesn’t get any better than this. Fossil Bay at Shirley, Vancouver Island, BC.
