I believe that it is my sense of adventure as well as a desire to explore and learn that has led me to where I am today: a student in this my 1st MET semester and a new resident of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
A majority of my professional experience involves teaching grade 9 and 10 Applied Sciences (a wonderful hands-on approach to science, technology, engineering and math) in the province of Québec. Throughout my professional career, I have attempted to create a blended learning environment and to use technology to engage my students in a relevant and meaningful manner.
I believe that e-learning and distance education will play a critical role in the future of education and I wish to acquire the skills and tools needed to develop and carefully reflect on emerging technologies. I have registered for this class in the hopes of understanding and experiencing the side of educational technology that is necessary but often masked from the everyday user: the venture.
On a more personal note, I enjoy many hobbies ranging from playing the piano and cello to running and practicing archery. I also have run many extracurricular activities at my high school including starting the robotics club, revamping the local science fair and coaching the competitive cheerleading team. Driven by a love of learning, I travel whenever I can (avid photographer), and on my down time I often try to learn new computer programs that will further my understanding and respect for technology (I can finally check learning basic 3D computer animation off my list hello intro0001-0100)
I hope that my passion for learning, as well as, my inclination for trying new things and attempting to master them, will be of use in this course.
Wishing everyone a wonderful and successful semester
Danielle
