Hello all,
I’m Kim Durnford. I have been extremely fortunate to have been granted a Professional Interim Fellowship beginning this week! This allows me a year out of the classroom to complete my masters program. I have currently completed 4 courses and am looking forward to the new learnings from this course. I usually work as an Elementary Generalist in Calgary, AB. I also hold a Learning Leader designation with a focus on technology.
This course intrigues me as it is unique to my usual educational experiences. I have a limited ‘business’ background but I am interested in how ventures can support education. In my experience, teachers generally are not gamers. They as a whole are a bit wary of technology and utilize technology in their personal lives less than other professions may. Certainly, many educators are on the cutting edge. Using the knowledge teachers have to create products that promote best practice of learning theories with innovation of new technological advances, is an outstanding opportunity!
My son is my greatest joy. He is six and currently enjoying grade 1. It is such an interesting feeling to be on the other side of the classroom exchange. I am certainly reflecting on my own practice through my parent eyes!
As for hobbies, I mostly enjoy travel, cooking and sports. My goal in life is to combine them all as often as possible. Last summer I was able to travel to 7 European countries and I am hoping to try the amazing tastes of Southeast Asia as a celebration of the program in May. I enjoy most sports and have recently tried a boxing class. Although I take 3 days to recover each time..arg…I am enjoying the challenge.
Looking forward to getting to know you all and learn from all the amazing minds in our program.
Cheers,
Kim
