Hello from Toronto

By tariqrbutt on September 10, 2015

hiking-bruce-trail-2013Hello everyone,

My name is Tariq Butt and I am enrolled in my ninth and tenth courses in the MET program this semester. The other course I am pursuing this term is ETEC 531: Curriculum Issues in Cultural and New Media Studies.

Although I am looking forward to wrapping up my coursework for the MET program, I am also anticipating going through MET withdrawal after I wind up this semester. I know that I will miss the academic discourse and peer interaction that have been of great value in my journey through this program.

I am currently employed in one of Canada’s Big Five banks in a training and communications function. This allows me to practice some of what I learn in the MET program, but the corporate sector is conservative in embracing learning technologies. I am still waiting for the day that any of my proposals about online learning communities as an engaging model for corporate learning will be met with acceptance.

I have long held an ambition to provide learning solutions to small and medium enterprises who are dedicated to true learning and development of their employees. In ETEC 522, I would like to learn more about learning technology ventures that can facilitate personal and professional growth for full-time professionals.

As you can see in my picture, I have two children and I try to get as much outdoor time with them as the weather, my fading energy level and our schedules permit.

A few months ago I started compiling some of my MET assignments and other writings in a blog about Learning Technology. You can check it out at: www.khithr.com

Looking forward to learning with you all.

Tariq
