Duolingo: Free language education for the world

By kdurny on October 19, 2015

For my report I chose the language learning software Duolingo. My son is in a French immersion school and so I am personally reminded on a daily basis of the benefits of learning a second language. In an effort to learn with him, I sought out a solution that would provide me with interactive lessons, quick on-the-go availability and motivating features to keep me going. Duolingo met all of this criteria and even better, it was free! My analysis was an enjoyable experience. Delving into the business side of education is not something I am familiar with. I found it challenging to focus on the venture aspect rather than the educational implications. Thinking like an investor takes some time and mental energy! After speaking with a friend who lives in the business world, specifically sales, I was better able to process and organize the research that I had found. It was especially hard to analyze the risks, as it requires a projection and we simply don’t get all the facts about ventures, specifically ones that are privately held. A change in perspective was a fantastic challenge. I look forward to learning what others have found through their search! My project can be found at: http://etec522duolingo.weebly.com
