Analyst Report – Open Educational Resources

By Kate L. on October 20, 2015

I created an Open Educational Resource on the topic of Open Educational Resources!  Hope this is a resource for others and I would love to keep building this in the future. Share if you like.

@rrto thank you for the feedback. It is always hard to know where to stop with a 'resource portal' site. I would love to continue to contribute to build it as this is dynamic content. Thanks for the heads up on a academia.edu site so I now have an account there. (Downloaded your paper) Looks like a good place for collaboration.

Hi Kate, Great OER! I like the videos and the general design and feel of the site. I wrote a paper for ETEC 511 arguing that Public School Boards should embrace OER rather than paying private publishers for textbooks. It's here https://www.academia.edu/5699161/Turn_to_page_one_billion_A_justification_for_the_use_of_OER_rather_than_textbooks_in_K-12_schools if you're interested. It makes many of the same points you did here but in a more traditional essay format.

@Cathy Fowler. Thank you for looking over my site. What I came to realize is this is not a static resource. There needs to be a level of commitment when you create a resource portal to keep it up to date or expand on it constantly. I only provided a few select resource sites, but to be more useful, it would take a team and much longer time allocation to keep it alive. Websites are not as interesting as tools to help you organize the tsunami of websites.

Thanks Kate for sharing this OER about OERs. I am excited for the directions OERs are taking educators and education. As we become more versed in collaborating and sharing information it will transfer into other areas of education, technology, science and medicine. Our students can only benefit from professionals sharing their knowledge on a global scale.
