Survival Systems Training Ltd.
This company has a marine small craft simulator room that simulates extreme environmental effects for practical training in simulated real world conditions. They run simulations using a range of mechanical apparatuses and props to vary the conditions of the environment and the training activity. Additionally, they have two computerized marine training simulators that use real physical control interfaces as input to the simulation that is represented through 3D graphics displayed on multiple monitors. They also have mobile trainers for confined space and fire and structural training. There is also an outside apparatus in the harbor to conduct other survival exercises. They have classrooms equipped with Smartboards, digital projectors and monitor displays that can be configured for specialized programs. And; although it is not evident on their site, I know that they deliver a self paced Basic Survival Training Refresher course through an on line management system. There is still a significant focus on classroom delivery of both theory and practical training that could add up to additional unnecessary cost for the learner (time off work, travel). I know that the industries that this company serves are highly regulated, so sometimes it is not permitted to provide efficiency in training due to certification requirements. Although there are many practical applications that can not be transferred to eLearning, this company has not yet fully embraced distance learning and performance support systems to see the advantages that they can provide.
