Week 9: Activity 3 Post

- The gaps that I see in the data collected are in the areas of “provide assessment” and “training of Psychomotor skills”. In regard to assessment, the purpose of the personalized writing technology is to provide the best tool for the learner to communicate his ideas and writing voice, not matter which way he chooses. It is the ideas and learning which are to be assessed, not the tool so that gap is expected and understood. I think in the education system, it is difficult to both have the appropriate tool available for the learner to try and to use as well as the understanding of the educator that assessment of the learning is the bottom line. If one student writes with a keyboard in a word doc, another in Kurzweil, another uses his speech to text with Siri and another uses Co-writer, that is not only OK but celebrated in a truly UDL learning environment. This is the reality and near future of writing technologies in the school system.
- The other gap noted was in training of psychomotor skills and that as well is not the skill that needs to be focused on when communication is the goal. One app that I don’t think was mentioned that does do this work is Handwriting without Tears. https://www.hwtears.com/hwt
- Many occupational therapists recommend it for the training of those skills!
- Thank you for an excellent OER, very near and dear to my work with lerarners.
