Week 9 – Activity 3

By Patrick Conlan on November 8, 2015

When looking at the data from Activity #2, the items that stood out to me the most were about evaluation of personalized writing. There appears to be many technologies that facilitate writing but the evaluation piece is still lacking apparently. I think that this is going to be a huge entrepreneurial opportunity in the next 5-10 years for applications to give real-time feedback on how people learn. The idea is that with machine learning, a technology can track progress with appropriate assessment that leads to engaged learning. The only problem is that we are not quite there yet with the technology. Cutting-edge technology companies throughout the world are working on creating these platforms for data analysis but I think it will take a while for them to trickle down into the educational sector. I see great value in having automated real-time evaluation of handwriting and writing content. We will eventually get to the point where applications can tell us what is or is not a well written assignment. Once we have that technology, I think it will allow people of all ages to express themselves in unique and interesting ways.
