Week 9: Gaps and Opportunities

By tariqrbutt on November 8, 2015

There were many technologies, uses and contexts for Personalized Learning Writing Technologies identified in the Week 9 OER with applications varying from Speech to Text, Text to Speech, Mind Mapping, Creative Writing etc. However, I found one area of personalized learning with respect to writing that was underrepresented in the examples provided by my peers – the use of personalized learning technologies for acquisition of writing skills for a second language. As a lifelong French language learner who has tried all technological solutions from Rosetta Stone to Duolingo, I have found that there is a paucity of solutions for second language writing skills. Although there are many software solutions for acquiring conversational skills, vocabulary, grammar etc. there is no technology that ties it together in a comprehensive writing development software. I believe that there would be a market for this software because currently there is a genuine need of developing this school in formalized programs (schools, language centres) and for learners who want to use personalized learning software informally for their own development.
