One thing to point out...your video in the pitch was quite shaky, and occasionally made it hard to focus on your words. In the future maybe place the camera on a solid surface and go from there. Great pitch idea!

Laurie, you identified the problem and suggested a great feasible solution. Your idea can be a real venture. I liked the way you produced the video where you mixed between graphics and real life videos. I believe that real scenes wake the feelings and let you feel the problem and the solution. I liked the way you took about kids while uploading videos "They are still children and need a secure channel". I think your venture will spread easy in the market. As an EVA, I couldn't see a clear ROI or investing method. You presented the required funds but I didn't see what I will gain from it? Hi Laurie, Great idea and wonderful use of student footage to enhance your presentation. I appreciate your in-depth description of the product, its competitors and your team. I would have preferred more details about your revenue model and development plan. How many schools do you think you can target? How much does your product cost? Are you thinking of a one-time purchase or a subscription basis? What additional funding rounds do you anticipate? Have you considered partnering with a 3D printer company? While I love the idea and would want to purchase your product, from an investor’s perspective, I need more information about the business.

FEEDBACK: Your venture addresses a highly prevalent issue in education today. The highly public nature of video-sharing websites such as Youtube presents a cause for concern among many educators, students, and in the case of younger grades, their parents. 3DCreatingSpace eradicates these concerns while allowing for continued creative expression through videos. Speaking of which, I really enjoyed the video footage you included. It emphasized the face that learners today are creators and innovators, and will surely see the value in this venture. I think that investors will as well!

FEEDBACK: The idea behind your venture is a good one, but for me and my investment, it might be a bit premature. I have only been in one classroom in my fair-sized school district that has 3D printers. It makes me wonder who your target customer is… high schools? However, if these types of devices become cheaper in the near future, this could be cutting edge.

Most ideas in this area offer some of the same storage options, but not all and not "in-house". Your images of kids working was captivating and I thought of Makerspaces, and how nicely this ties in together. Great to see the images of the 3D printer in action, you have a solid venture plan. FEEDBACK - Laurie, I really liked how well you articulated the problem and your recommended solution in the form of 3DCreatingSpace. Your elevator pitch and venture pitch demonstrated judicious use of media and well laid out arguments for supporting your venture. Even though I found your solution to be simple and well structured I decided not to do a deeper review because, as you already know, you have some stiff competition in this domain. Although you identify your competition, I believe that one way in which you could have made your presentation stronger was by making a stronger case for why users would prefer your solution above the youtube and flickr options. I believe comprehensive case studies and market analysis (real or fictitious for the purposes of this assignment) would have made me feel more confident as a venture analyst that I was taking a manageable risk in backing your venture.

REVIEW: Great work, Laurie! I think out of all of us, you always do the best with enunciating, an overlooked but especially important skill when trying to clearly let investors know about your pitch. For the Venture Pitch, I think the main strengths are how clearly you’ve delineated the problem and the solution. A combination of real-world clips mixed with static images helps to illustrate real world uses. My main suggestion is that the Venture Pitch could be improved through contextual details about time and place that help establish the problem and apply the solution to the real world. For example, in what grade-level and in what countries is the venture relevant? Is privacy of a particular concern to Canadian students? It might help to connect this issue to broader privacy themes that we have in Canada (e.g. the way a number of our schools prohibit using U.S.-based cloud services due to the PATRIOT Act in the U.S.), or to clarify whether privacy is especially important after Edward Snowden’s revelations, or whether it has always been important, especially for students who are minors. With this context in place, I recommend funding for 3DCreatingSpace.
