Hello!
I have just enrolled in ETEC 522, and am becoming a bit concerned that my lack of business credentials/experience may hinder my ability to fully understand/navigate the material in this course. I am a science teacher with absolutely NO business experience, so a lot of the ‘business-speak’ is very new to me. Is there a glossary of terms / acronym list / website that might help someone like me?
There are a number of terms used on the website that I am unfamiliar with. These questions are mainly directed to the course authors, but if anyone else could help as well, I’d appreciate it!
- What is “EVA”? (e.g. “Critical EVA”). If it is “Economic Value Added”, this doesn’t help, as I still don’t know what that means.
- What does “venture” mean? I have a vague idea, but how is it being used in this course? (again… I have no business experience or training)
- What is “regenerative learning design”? This term was in the introduction and was not explained, and I have never seen this term before. I Googled it and came up with “Regenerative design is a process-oriented systems theory based approach to design.” Wow. This only made me more confused.
- What is an “emerging market” as it relates to this course? I wouldn’t know if I have an interest in one, since I don’t even know what it means (China? India?). Some examples, in the context of this course, would help.
- The term “wyziwyg” is used in the “Creating a Post” section. Was this meant to read “WYSIWYG” (what you see is what you get)?
I’m sorry if these seem like very basic questions, but please understand that I have had absolutely NO business training.
I am not a fan of acronyms, as I find it hard to take meaning from sentences that rely too fully on them. There is one sentence in Assignment 2 that reads, “There is no guarantee that NMC will publish your OER, and it will take a very professional product from your EMT to make the cut.”, with no explanation of what “NMC” actually stands for…I’m guessing it’s not “Nursing and Midwifery Council”!
