I am a secondary school teacher, and am currently teaching my 5th year in Vancouver at an all-girls independent school. My current teaching load consists of Biology 12 (soon to be “Anatomy & Physiology 12” in the new BC Curriculum), ICT 9 (NXT Robotics, Photoshop & SketchUp), and Science 8. I have also taught Science 10 and an online-only ICT 8 course, as well as ELL Science 8 classes.
Previously, I taught for 7 years at an Ontario-curriculum “matriculation” (Grade 12 only, Biology & Chemistry) program in Petaling Jaya (near Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia. Before that, I was teaching Science, Math, and Electronics in Porirua, New Zealand, as well as a Catholic all-girls grammar school in North London (UK). Needless to say, I like to travel! I’ve set up an MET blog/e-Portfolio, where I’ve posted some of my travel photos as well as assignments and blog/discussion board posts from my previous MET courses.
I have no business experience (none, zero, nada) so I thought this might be a good way to learn about business as it relates to learning technologies. So far I’m having some difficulties deciphering some of the ‘business jargon’, but hopefully it will become clear as time goes on.
I attended the NCCE (Northwest Council for Computer Education) Conference in Portland last spring and was introduced to a number of new teaching technologies. This was very eye-opening, as much of my teaching experience (prior to coming to Vancouver) was decidedly “low-tech”!
This picture is of me in front of an ornate doorway in Jaipur, India (Amer Fort). I chose it because I feel as if I’m entering unknown terrain – a doorway into the world of ‘venture’ business (I’m not sure if that’s even a term. I’m grasping here).
