Hello from Mount Pleasant!

By Jordan on May 13, 2016

Hello fellow ETEC522 students!

My name is Jordan, and I am an educator based out of Vancouver! While I completed my Bachelor’s in History and Political Science, I have since moved into the realm of teaching all things computer: music production, video editing, and much more. I am taking ETEC 522 because I am particularly interested in the ways that apps and websites can create exponential growth in learning outcomes. I have been amazed by apps such as Duolingo which is available for free on almost any mobile computer, and uses highly effective methods to teach a variety of languages. I would also like to focus my learning in this course around intersections of knowledge, and how students can learn to adapt their skills from a variety of fields to solve unique challenges.

Also, as an independent content producer, I am interested to learn more about analyzing ventures and successfully planning deployment of new media, softwares or services. With the growth of automation in the production economy, students will be more and more dependent on creating their own independent ventures. As educators we must be prepared to coach them along this road.

I am looking forward to reading your introductions and working with you in the coming months!

As a language teacher, I'm curious to know what you find effective about Duolingo?
