WordPress: Confusing Format

By erinmenzies on August 3, 2016

Hi All,

I have been anxiously considering posting this since the first week of the class, and am finally ready to admit it: the formatting of this course as a WordPress blog does not work for me at all.  I am consistently perplexed as to where to find information (e.g. Where do I find the instructions for the venture pitch review? Why wasn’t the fact that we need to review 10 pitches included in the assignment criteria?), where I should be posting, how to locate responses to my work and more.

I am experienced with WordPress, and in fact manage a few UBC CMS WordPress sites myself, so it’s not lack of familiarity. I just don’t feel it’s the appropriate tool for teaching and learning in the context of this course. I know from speaking with others that I am not alone in feeling drowned in information as a result of the way this course content is formatted.  While linear works when we are completing linear tasks, it’s very difficult when trying to sift between disparate areas of the site to complete mandatory coursework.  I do hope the format can be revisited for future versions of this course.
