Hello!
My name is Joyce Chan. This is my 6th/7th course in the UBC MET program (I am taking two this semester). I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto with a specialist in English and a minor in History. I also received a certificate in business through U of T’s Rotman School of Management.
I am a career changer who is just beginning her journey into the field of education. I am about to start working for Instrux Media in Ottawa who creates e-learning material for both the government and private corporations. I grew up in Toronto where I worked for six years with a financial company working on communication and reporting projects before my husband’s work took us to Washington, DC. I hope to bring my love and experience for working on projects and seeing things from inception to implementation to the field of education technology.
My interest is primarily on adult and post-secondary education in particular the use of technology to most appropriately and efficiently deliver learning experiences. I’m hoping to learn from this course not only how education technology applies and prosper but how it may apply differently to profit vs. non-profit, government vs. private, and academia vs. corporate environments.
I recently moved to Ottawa from DC with my husband and we are just about settled in. Just as my education and work experience is varied, so is my personal interests. I enjoy museums and art galleries when I’m in the city, hiking and kayaking when in nature, and reading and baking/cooking when I’m at home. Here is a picture from this week of my husband and I as we checked out the canal by the Parliament for the first time.
I’m looking forward to learning with and from all of you!
Cheers,
Joyce
