While the company Philips is not new, they launched a new product in May of this year called CareSensus. It is a smart home sensor system that helps to track people’s movements and behaviors in their home. The collection of all this data is being monitored and abnormal patterns of behaviors are flagged to ensure the patient remains safe in their home. This system is part of an emerging trend in the area of the Internet of Things (IoT) whereby ambient sensors passively extract data from an environment so that analytics can help predict and prevent accidents in the home. For example, if a person has been getting up multiple times in the night and going to the bathroom a notification can be send to the caregiver to look into getting checked out by their family physician. Furthermore, a tablet can be added to the system to provide access to video chat compatibilities for social chats or medication reminders. The CareSensus has partnered with a company called Right At Home that provides a variety of homecare services to solidify their position in the area of healthcare services. Philips continues to build on their proven track record in the healthcare industry with its Lifeline product that is well known in the marketplace already.
