Sean Sears, Founder and Chairman of sageCrowdsean-sears

sageCrowd is an online social learning network which is focused on business and personal development skills training. They incorporate the latest discoveries in the science of learning into their ten minute competency-based training modules. The short segments use collaborative techniques which they claim align with the brains ‘natural’ learning cycle to create permanent memories. The sales target for their business is the training and development decision makers in large organizations.

According to his LinkedIn account he holds a BBA, Information System from St. Francis Xavier University and an MBA, International Business from Dalhousie University.

Sean has founded or co-founded four technology companies since 1996, of which three have sold to other public companies. He has held the position of founder and Chairman of sageCrowd since 2012. He is also currently Chairman or CEO of four other organizations. He has 1,500 + followers on LinkedIn and his endorsements are most plentiful for Start-ups and Entrepreneurship. He is the narrator of the sageCrowd elevator pitch video where he mentions big names such as Gloria Feldt, Marshal Goldsmith, Lindsey Pollack, and Jim Smith Jr.

The organization is small (under 10 employees) but employs a seasoned technical specialist, Gil Shomrat and very experienced sales professional Geoff Fleming.

It’s difficult to compare my own experience to Sean’s expertise in the field, considering the number of companies where he still holds a leadership position. However, I chose his profile because the company is Canadian but also because he took a simple idea, identified a gap in self-directed training and created a market niche.

Microlearning is such a hot trend right now and particularly obvious for the busy adult learner. I can see a lot of potential with this company especially since their strength is that they incorporate the latest discoveries into their learning which makes their content not only easy to absorb in its short increments but also very relevant.

Hi Brenda - sageCrowd sound like an interesting venture. Competency-based micro learning sounds like something that would lend itself well to the corporate world. I wonder what competencies sageCrowd targets. It is also nice to see something focused on personal development. I would assume the pricing model allows for individual usage versus large organizational investment. Sean sounds very experienced and qualified to act as CEO. His history make me believe that this venture will succeed.

I think this company is something that will continue to grow and lead to success. With social media, and the desire for interconnections, combining business and personal development will only entice individuals to explore this website. Based on Sean's history (co-founded four technology companies, multiple CEO/Chair positions, and extensive network connections on LinkedIn), I expect to see great things to come from sageCrowd. It seems as though Sean is able to take an idea/start up, support it, and create growth successfully. The networks he is part of, and his success with business and leadership will only help propel sageCrowd.
