Hello all
My name is Ghassan Barhoumeh, I am a Grade 3 teacher in an international school in Dubai, UAE. And I will be moving to Russia this coming August.
This is my fourth course with MET, and I am still learning how to use this website. It is not the best of websites, especially when you receive zillion notifications a day, but I manage with the help of my peers and thanks to google.doc I can work efficiently with groups.
Teaching is a second career for me; I was in the hotel business all of my life till I had 2 children whom I enjoy playing with and spending time with. And because of them, I decided to change jobs- time was limited to spend with my family. So, I decided to change my career and be a teacher rather than hotelier. My family moved from Beijing, China, to Winnipeg, Canada, where I graduated from University of Manitoba in 2014, and then I went to Lakehead in Thunder Bay to complete my teaching degree.
In 2015 my wife and I decided to move to Dubai along with my children to live here in order to provide our children with an international experience where we meet people from all over the globe. Dubai is one of the largest cities in Middle East, if not the largest, in terms of hosting expats. We have 280 different nationalities who live and work here in Dubai.
It is not going to be the same case in 4 months when we have to start the new job in Russia. The majority of the students there will be Russian students which mean that most of the students will be EAL students. Therefore, this experience will be very different and challenging.
I enjoy a lot working with Grade 3 because I think that this cohort of children who are 8-9 years old are very challenging and curious.
We cook a lot, we travel a lot, and we enjoy the company of others.
Hope we will have fun in this course.
