Week 10: Makerspaces OER

This was a great site. I really liked the padlets, and that you commented on so many of the ideas within them. It really felt like conversations were being had and that my own ideas would be read and considered, rather than just given a checkmark for completion. The tasks pushed me to research the maker resources in my own city, and I have even, since the week, recommended the Toronto Library 3-D printer courses to a friend who's child is starting to get interested in the field. A great site and I feel I learned a lot from it.

Hi Makerspace Team, Thank you for sharing this venture and creating an interactive forum for discussion. The information was neutral and allowed us a EVA to come to our own conclusion and its appropriateness. This is definitely something worth exploring deeper into.

Great resources, Makerspace Team. I like how it had me thinking all week about what is and what isn’t a makerspace. I started checking out what was available in my community. I found that my workplace BCIT has two makerspaces, a student club, and the BCIT’s Tinkershop Makerspace. It looks like there’s a waiting list to join, which gives me time to think of learning opportunities there for nursing students?? In the meantime, I am playing with thought of opening the Simulation Lab up as a space where students can come to create their own educational scenarios and labs to practice on. There’s so much complexity in creating the situated experience correctly, that I think it would be a valuable learning experience. Thanks again, Eva

Hello Makerspace Team, I've been hearing so much about this topic the past few months, but never really knew how to get started or where to look for resources. You've provided great ideas in the form of videos and discussions. I would have never considered makerspaces to be profitable and sustainable ventures, but you've definitely changed my mind about that. Thanks!

Hello Guys, That was a great introduction, research and a full venture for Makerspaces. I enjoyed the variety of activities and materials that you have added to the website. It is for sure a great resource to me as a teacher. I will be using it for my next academic year. I will introduce to my students DIY and eventually the DIT as they collaborate and share their projects together. Great Job! G.
