Hello from Southern Alberta!

By Brian Haas on January 4, 2018

Hello, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a 37-year-old Canadian male. I grew up in Nova Scotia but currently reside in Alberta. I am married and have 4 children (3 girls and 1 boy). I like skateboarding, video games, gardening and growing giant pumpkins. I completed a BA in History and Geography from Memorial University of Newfoundland and an Education degree with a major in technology education also from MUN. I taught 6 years of public school in New Brunswick (from 2007-2013), teaching classes on everything from basic IT skills to robotics. It was a wonderful experience. In 2013 my career shifted a bit, and I moved to Alberta with my family to teach religious education for high school students from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We moved to a small town in southern Alberta named Raymond. This is my fifth MET course. I am loving what I have learned so far and I’m looking forward to what this course has to offer. I have almost zero background in business but consider myself a tech nerd. I see this course as one that will help me understand a side to emergent educational technology ventures that I have no experience with. Because I have no business background some of the things I’ve read in the startup make me nervous, but that’s just because I will be doing things I’ve never done before. Isn’t that what learning is all about?

Looking forward to interacting with you and developing a real culture in this online course.

Brian

Here are 3 of the pumpkins I grew this year. The biggest was 500lbs.
