A hype cycle was featured as part of the Elearning.com 2018 learning predictions, but I thought the link provided that explains a hype cycle was relatively small and potentially easy to miss. Here is the link to that site, a valuable resource in terms of understanding the “maturity and adoption of technologies and applications, and how they are potentially relevant to solving real business problems and exploiting new opportunities.”
A hype cycle essential outlines “the five key phases of a technology’s life cycle”:
- Innovation Trigger
- Peak of Inflated Expectations
- Trough of Disillusionment
- Slope of Enlightenment
- Plateau of Productivity
Where a technology falls on this cycle informs investors as to the level of risk that may be involved in adopting or investing in that type of technology “within the context of their industry.”
David, in terms of meeting the intended goals for this collaborative professional platform, is this the sort of curation you are looking for? I know it is technically attached to your post, but I thought the information on Hype Cycles was too significant to not refer to it specifically.
