Hi from North Vancouver

By Victoria Ramsey on September 4, 2018

Hi everyone,

This is my 6th course in the MET program. I took a little break from the previous semester as I just had my first baby. The picture below is from this past Labour Day on a surf trip down to Washington, and our last little trip of the summer. Now back at it!

Before going on mat leave, I was and will be going back to my job as a primary teacher in a small, independent school on the North Shore for students with learning disabilities. I am particularly looking forward to this course and assessing some programs that I use pretty consistently in my job, as I find a lot of the technologies out there are not conducive to all students, especially my student population, which struggles with literacy. With tech being such a prominent component of learning today, there is so much opportunity for various programs to aid struggling readers and writers in enhancing understanding and contributing ideas without the use of text. I’ve often thought about ways in which I would change the various programs I use to tailor them for these students.

Aside from teaching and spending all my time with baby girl Charlie, I love being outdoors – camping, hiking, snowboarding… And I’m excited to take things a little slower this school year.

Looking forward to the course with you all.

Victoria

Hi Victoria, congrats on your little one. Like you, I am also inspired by how technology can be used with learning disabilities. I used to work at a private school that did not have special needs as it was very academic. However, I ended up with a child with dyslexia and I spent the entire year researching and looking for ways to help him. I'm looking forward to learning about all these technologies I have not been familiarized with.
