Hi everyone,
First off I’m really looking forward to this course, as I’ve heard great things! I’ve already perused some of your introductions and it seems, already, that we’ll have quite a varied group.
Background
I’m a Math and Science Instructor and Math Department Head at a college in Doha, Qatar. This is my 6th year in Doha, and my 7th year teaching. This term is a little different as I’m on parental leave to take care of my son, so I’m very much looking forward to that aspect as well. This is, however, my first time taking two courses at once so I’m eager to challenge myself to manage time effectively…
MET and Motivations
Speaking of courses, I’m currently taking my 8th and 9th. Time has flown but I’ve learned a lot and met many wonderful people throughout the past several years. I love the idea of an educational approach to startup ventures so I really think I’m going to dig this course. Outside my educational experiences/background, I’m an experienced guitarist, musician, and an avid gamer; I could discuss video games longer than most would want to put up with it. With that said, if you ever wanna chat about them, or debate how they can be leveraged in the classroom… I’m all ears!
The last few years have resulted in extended reflection and as I consider leaving Doha to return home to Newfoundland I wonder what other avenues I could explore, professionally-speaking. My interest in startups lead me to choose this course so I’m eager to explore how the tried-and-true tools of successful pioneers can be applied to familiar (or maybe not-so-familiar) educational contexts. I’m a techy guy at heart so if these explorations could involve interesting technologies that would be all the better!
That’s enough out of me; I don’t want to bore you from the starting gate.
Very much looking forward to meeting you all!
Scott
