Hi everyone! My name is Reg, and I live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Halifax’s neighbouring town just across the harbour. This will be my 8th MET course…the end is almost in sight!! This past summer, I was fortunate enough to travel from coast to coast and participate in the MET’s first in-house emerging technology-related class. Here’s a photo from my experience using Facebook’s VR app, Facebook Spaces; my avatar video called home, and our little chihuahua was so confused by the experience as he could hear me but only saw the avatar! And yes, if you look closely, he’s wearing a tie. Haha
I’m really hoping there’ll be another campus-based concentrated course offered next summer to cap off my MET adventure! Here’s a snapshot of me ‘touristing’ during a morning jog around campus from that visit.
In Dartmouth, I lead a training quality assurance team, overseeing blended (LMS-based and practical, simulator-based) helicopter maintenance training for the Canadian military. The MET program allows me to better advise on training matters within my organization, as I’ve been able to directly apply some things I’ve picked up throughout the program at work.
ETEC 522 is probably the course I’ve been most looking forward to, as I have a personal interest in business ventures and business analysis. I’m always listening to investing podcasts while running, as I find it a nice mental tangent from the daily grind. I enjoy dabbling in the stock market as a hobby, and hope to get a small business off the ground in the near future. I’m hoping knowledge gained over the last few years overlaps at least somewhat with the course activities and discussions!
I look forward to working with and learning from all of you this term. Let’s get this party started!
