Hello from Montreal

By Vincent Dong on May 8, 2019

Hello, Everyone,

My name is Vincent, and this is my third term of the MET program.

I moved from China to Canada two years ago and now living in Montreal with my family. Before that, I had worked as a manager for many years in the financial industry (HSBC and ANZ); then I managed to transfer to the educational sector and worked for Pearson and VIPkid.com (a Chinese online K12 education unicorn) in the past four years. I have expertise in operations management, project management, and business process management.

When I was working for Pearson, I participated in an internal corporate venture program (Tomorrow’s Markets Incubator), and our business case passed the screening of the preliminary round and successfully entered the finals. Although I didn’t continue the entrepreneurial competition because I left Pearson, I have always been curious and enthusiastic about business innovation in the field of education technology. This is also the reason I chose this course.

In my spare time, my favourite pastimes are jogging, swimming, hiking and reading. I am delighted to have an opportunity to work with you in the coming months. Cheers!

Hi Lee, nice meeting you here. I worked for the founder and CEO of VIPkid.com in 2017. I am glad that I had unique work experience and witnessed the zero-to-one transformation of a k-12 education company. Definite we have some common interest, and I am looking forward to working with you. Cheers!

Hi Vincent! Great to meet you! I was reading about VIPkid.com recently. Where you part of the company itself or a teacher delivering lessons via the service? My interests are in the corporate side of learning - so it sounds like we'll have some areas of common interest. Looking forward to chatting and learning with you. Lee.

I have lots and lots of opinions on the education side of Educational Technology - but lack in all meaningful ways the business and technological acumen to create anything. It's going to be great getting to work with people who have a supremely valuable skillset that is entirely not my own.
