Hi everyone,
My name is Jiri and I am logging in from Courtenay on Vancouver Island. My work life is split between teaching ESL/EAL teachers online through U of Calgary’s ContEd and managing/training online language assessors who work with an international English test organization.
This is my 5th MET course. I am looking forward to learning and thinking about new opportunities for online and ed-tech involving learning. In the realm of language teaching and assessment there seems to be lots of experimenting and new ideas related to self-directed learning, real-time online teaching, apps, AI and different types of tech-based assessment. I find all of these very interesting, especially as many language learners are reading for their devices as much (or more) as they consider taking a class taught by a teacher. I think there are also lots of new business opportunities related to meeting the needs and demands of language learners – whether within Canada (e.g. newcomers) or internationally.
I lived in Calgary for 15 years until early last year, when I moved to Vancouver Island (though at the moment I am lucky enough to be traveling in the UK and Europe). When I don’t work or do my MET studies, I enjoy running, photography, the outdoors, coffee and good books.
