Matt Candler is the founder of education – focused entrepreneur support community 4.0 Schools. 4.0 Schools is a non-profit organization similar to an incubator, but Candler describes it as a community committed to the future of education.
4.0 Schools provides assistance to entrepreneurs in the education arena by matching them with mentors and training to get their concepts to the point where they are tested in pilot programs. Applicants for the organization’s fellowships receive “boot camp” instruction and online instruction and support. Some small financing may be available if needed. The organization’s stated philosophy is to drive innovation in the traditionally slow-changing education environment by doing as much as possible with as small a team as possible.
Candler credits his time working with charter schools after obtaining an MBA as driving his interest in the future of education and the need to innovate to meet that future. After serving as founder and CEO for eight years, Candler is making the all too rare move of voluntarily handing over the CEO job to another individual. He will however continue to serve as the chair of 4.0 School’s board, which is made up of individuals with direct experience in the education sphere.
