Jack Dorsey, CEO at Twitter

By natallia kuzmich on June 4, 2019

Jack Dorsey, CEO at Twitter

A businessman and founder of one of the world’s largest networking sites, Jack Dorsey launched Twitter in 2006. In the tradition of other leading entrepreneurs including Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg, Dorsey dropped out of college before receiving his degree. By 2010, Twitter had attracted more than 105 million users. The company filed for an initial public offering in November 2013. Twitter’s stock started at a share price of $26 and rose to $45 during its first day of trading.

1.The first person to post a tweet.

It was the creator himself. On 21st March 2006, Jack Dorsey posted the world’s first ever twitter message. He tweeted “just setting up my twtr.”

  1. Twitter is part of Dorsey’s morning routine.

Dorsey likes to wake up and check the weather. But there’s one other thing he always checks: Twitter. The first thing he does is go to Twitter search, so he can see “exactly what’s happening exactly right now in the world.”

  1. He Has Interviewed Barack Obama.

In 2011, Jack Dorsey featured Barack Obama on the first-ever Twitter Town Hall. Essentially, viewers would tweet their questions with the hashtag #AskObama, and the chosen questions would get answered by the President.

  1. He’s a College Dropout.

Joining the ranks of dropouts-turned-billionaires such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey dropped out of New York University in the year 2000. Instead, he moved to Oakland and started his own Web-based logistics company designed for courier, taxi, and emergency services use.

  1. He is a Part of Disney.

The Twitter head, Square, Inc. director, and Foursquare investor has a stake in the Walt Disney Company as well. He was invited to join the Company’s board of directors back in 2013.

  1. He Changed His Style.

He was very into the punk rock scene when he was younger. However, Dorsey elected to cut the dreads and lose the ring after Twitter began to take off. He wanted to be a better fit for the traditional executive image.

  1. ‘Square’

Jack Dorsey’s another successful venture includes “Square”. Square started as a small firm employing ten people in the year 2009, it expanded and by June 2011, it employed over a hundred people. In the year, 2012 Business Insider magazine estimated the net worth of Square Inc. to be 3.2 billion dollars.

  1. Dorsey doesn’t have an office – or even a desk at Square HQ.

The Square chairman and CEO doesn’t have a corner office like you might expect. He prefers to use his iPad and have the freedom to roam around the office.

  1. He Visits Restaurants on a Schedule.

He even maintains a specific schedule for where he goes on each day.

  1. Dorsey was obsessed with emergency dispatch communications as a kid.

His love of trains later led to his obsession with emergency service vehicle dispatch. He was fascinated with the voices on the police scanner.

  1. He Created Software at 15.

Dorsey had a hand in creating some of the most widely used dispatch logistics software at the age of 15. He had always had a fascination with taxi companies and their dispatching process, thus deciding to create the open-source software back in the early 1990s. Parts of the code remain in use to this day.

  1. He used to be a model.

Before Dorsey was inventing groundbreaking new forms of instant messaging, or revolutionizing the payment processing market, he was breaking hearts as a vintage clothing model. He modeled many high-end, luxury brands – and made them look good too.
