Assignment 1 – Edmodo

By Tyler on June 12, 2019

Edmodo is, at its core, a stripped down version of Facebook for educators to better engage with their students. It offers to educators the same functionality that they’re familiar with and it offers to students an extremely friendly user experience. There are security measures in place to keep content private and it’s even possible to engage parents if that’s ever deemed important. In short, it’s a platform I’m very excited about employing own my own practice.

I’ve made a Weebly site that breaks down and talks up the site in great detail. Have a look!

I enjoyed your Edmodo report, Tyler. Social media has become such a big part of teenagers' lives. Your hear more about it's negative impact, like addition. However, just like the education gaming industry harnesses it's addictive nature to improve learning, why not use social media for the same purpose? Especially in middle school and secondary school when students' social lives are so important. They are so connected to their social lives via social media. I believe in social media/networking platforms that harness the benefits of social media to facilitate ubiquitous learning and collaborative learning. Further, as you mention in your presentation, privacy and security are crucial and this is what makes this platform stand apart from other social media sites that are not designed with children and safety at the forefront of the design. I would also recommend that schools invest in platforms like Edmodo.
