Write I/T Right

By Jiri Karas on July 27, 2019

Write I/T Right (WITR) is a venture addressing a specific problem faced by millions of people every year.

Speakers of other languages who want to study in, immigrate to or practice a specialized profession in an English-speaking country have to succeed on one of the main English proficiency tests (IELTS or TOEFL – that’s why ‘Write I/T Right’). However, great many fail because their English writing skills are not at the level required by the test or the recognizing institution. Apart from face-to-face instruction, there is little available to them in terms of effective support. Write I/T Right’s AI tutoring app is here change that!

Hi Jiri! Being an ESL instructor and the second language learner myself, I find your idea brilliant! IELTS is definitely a struggle for a lot of English as a Second Language learners. To be honest, quite a number of my friends who are native speakers find it really challenging! With the technological changes in terms of language learning, a lot of tools are available at present. For example, you can easily avoid and eliminate so many mistakes using https://www.grammarly.com! However, I think your idea is more functional and helpful for specific audience of the language learners who need assistance in writing in the first place. I also really enjoyed the presentation of your venture: very visually appealing and clear in structure. Awesome work!

Hi Jiri! Your elevator pitch was well done. You very clearly outline the rationale for your AI tutoring system and the need for specific writing help in taking the IELTS and TOEFL exams (supported by data), and establish your credibility as the CEO of this company in your video as well as your Prezi. I like the fact that you have two revenue stream models (subscription service via universities and other institutions that offer these particular tests and direct to consumer services) and that you utilize the ubiquitousness of the mobile market. I also appreciate that you outlined the pilots your company has already facilitated. It would have been even more impactful if some of those pilots included testing beyond two weeks, or included students who tried taking the test without the aid of WITR, and then with the app, to see if there was a difference in the results. Great job!

Hello Jiri, I thought your elevator pitch was great. You clearly identified the pain point and it was easy to see why your venture makes sense. For your venture pitch I really liked how you embedded the videos to further explain your concepts- I thought this was a great way to do it. I also thought that your venture pitch was strong in terms of its market analysis. Finally, I like how you have the two phases for investment as well- I thought this made a lot of sense and gave a sense of flexibility to your potential investors. Good job overall! Sarah

FEEDBACK: Excellent elevator pitch Jiri. It was clear, concise, and delivered well. I also like how you started it with a story. You outlined the pain points and identified your target market well. Your longer venture pitch is detailed and contains some excellent data in the market opportunity section that is attractive to potential EVAs. An area to strengthen could potentially be the competition analysis. I can see that there are a couple TOEFL prep apps in the App store including TOEFL’s own app that doesn’t seem as advanced or as good as your product, but it might be worth mentioning them and what differentiates your product.

It is a great idea, Jiri! My former colleague and friend has actually started his own online business aiming to help the students all over the world to get ready for this type of exams. https://www.facebook.com/mosaicenglishschool/

Jiri, I think you do a good job identifying a need and demonstrating the existence of a receptive market. I think you have a good idea but for someone without experience in this area, it is hard to discern the specifics of how your app stands apart from the field. It is not uncommon for superior technology or products to fall by the wayside while inferior options succeed. While your product appears to be better, I wonder if it is substantially better, to the point where it can unseat more established competitors? If it is vastly superior, it was hard to identify from the presentation. I think the Prezi format made it a bit hard to navigate and an alternate presentation style might have made it easier to get your key points across. I think an expert in this field could better evaluate your app, but the average investor without a solid background might feel a bit lost. Your idea is innovative, but in my opinion, the Prezi does not do it justice. Too much steak not enough sizzle?
