Beyond Disruption

By daniel thomas on July 28, 2019

Hello Everyone,

For this assignment I have created my own venture – Beyond Disruption. The goal of beyond disruption was to create a place for people to gain expert level in-demand skills without the associated risks.

The tagline is “real world experiences without the real world risks”

Hope you enjoy.

You can find my pitch on the website and below here:

Hi Daniel! Your elevator pitch is engaging and concise and I like how your venture’s focus is providing VR experiences in response to the disruption in various organizations. You provided well-researched documentation as to the problem you are solving with Beyond Disruption. I really appreciated the phase approach that you outlined in your diagram as well. From an EVA standpoint, I’d like to know the price point in which you deliver your services - do you work with organizations individually to deliver services/experiences based on their particular use case, or do you provide licensing to use your database? I know from working with a local VR company who developed their platform from scratch that, for example, a single VR game that we had discussed would cost $50-70,000.00 to develop. I also like how you acknowledge your competitors, and you mention that what differentiates Beyond Disruption from their services is that they do not do the greatest job of bringing them together to create a wholistic experience - I imagine building a database to respond to every scenario would drive up costs, but I admire and appreciate the ambition and mission behind your venture! Great work.

FEEDBACK: Great elevator pitch Daniel! It was engaging, convincing, and showed your confidence in the product. The rest of your venture pitch was strong, but could have benefited from being more specific on what differentiates Beyond Disruption from the competition. I also think presenting some specific use cases (i.e, health care) for the product could help highlight its potential and capabilities.

Hey Daniel - great job! I like the concept and the presentation. I do have some thoughts and questions for you. There were some spots where the reference seemed to be oriented toward the workplace and adults and other spots where there were references to students. It might be better to start with a focus area and then look to potential expansion areas. Have you given thought to hardware costs and rollout constraints? If an organization were to look to roll-out the program, what would the costs be for the associated hardware? Would that limit the appetite for the product? And, in your phase 1, I like the trade-off of free access for building the database. I'd suggest that you also use this phase for capturing metrics, case studies and endorsements. Organizations can be cautious when it comes to change, they'll likely want to know who else has used the product and the results of that use.

"Technological disruption has created social and workforce disruption. The jobs of tomorrow are being prepared for with the skills of today - this is causing friction" Daniel, this an extremely insightful observation and you identify a very real problem that is begging for a solution. Additionally, tackling the "soft side of leadership that involves inspiring, motivating, and persuading followers" is innovative and, in my opinion, critically important. Your website is clean and easy to navigate and I appreciate the visuals. The market information is solid! I think your venture is excellent and I know how difficult it is to get into specifics, but as a potential investor, I would want to know a bit more on how your approach is superior to the competition and how much money is needed in terms of research and development to make this a reality. I think you do an outstanding job in identifying a problem in need of a solution, you hooked me right away, and I think the way it is presented is outstanding. If you could show that the technology is truly unique or that you held an insurmountable lead over the competitors, this would be a slam-dunk in terms of an investment opportunity! Honestly, this was tremendous work! The link to the elevator pitch and Youtube URL did not work, but I could view the pitch on your website.
