Hi Judy! I like how you respond to a real need in our educational system. It does seem that in Ontario, financial literacy is becoming an integral part of a Grade 10 career studies course this fall (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/grade-10-career-studies-curriculum-focus-financial-literacy-ontario-1.5197517) , which is great news because I agree that financial literacy should be taught explicitly for the reasons you’ve researched and outlined for us! I also like that you’ve digitized the age-old symbol of saving - the piggy bank - using “the latest in connected technology, tangible interface design, and blockchain technology”. With Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo, etc being the norm, it makes sense to use a digital “piggy wallet” for kids as that will speak to them more. The design of your product is appealing as well; very colourful and cute. How would this fit into an educational program? I know that you demonstrated how parents could interact with their children via Pigzbe, but is there an accompanying software that kids could use for simulation in a classroom for grades 4-9? You did include that in Pigzbe +; just wondering why not also for younger grades. Great job!
Hello Judy, Great venture! I think is a great idea to teach children/ teenagers about finance. You found a pain point, and it is very realistic. My concern is that most of the teenagers are not that concern about financial matters. Parents my like the idea more than the users (teenagers), would they actually use it? As for the elevator pitch, maybe you could have added a voice to your pitch? There were some text on your site that had a small font size, it was not very easy to read.
FEEDBACK: Great venture idea and pitch. Your elevator pitch was well written, but definitely missed your presence in the form of narration or seeing you. I think this would really get a potential investor engaged and ready to hear the rest of your pitch. The venture pitch site was easy to follow and was really successful at clearly communicating the problem that Pigzbe strives to solve. Your explanation of cryptocurrency, blockchain, and the related market was very well done.
Hi Judy, I agree that with Sarah that you definitely found a gap and the "pain point" is very clearly articulated. I also think that the integration between different types of games as lessons as well as scenarios make it very interesting and likely very useful for the student. I can see my financially-savvy husband investing in something like this! In terms of your elevator pitch, I found it to be a bit wordy and repetitive at times. While I don't know if you necessarily have to "show yourself" in the video, having a voice-over or some other type of audio would have made it more engaging. Hi Judy, I also found it challenging to step into the shoes of a potential investor. You definitely found a gap in the market and not a trivial one! I didn’t know about the financial literacy crisis and an extension of Pigzbe for high school students could have a great impact. High school students typically don’t start thinking about financial responsibility yet, but it is critical to start preparing for after high school. They don’t care because they are not there yet; no one likes to worry about matters for tomorrow, especially at that age. But, immersing students in lifelike situations where they need to use financial skills can engage students in financial literacy practices because they are in the situations they will face in the future. For your elevator pitch, some of the text was cropped off, at least on my screen. I would also suggest putting yourself in the video, at least at the start, to better express championship and authenticity. Last, if you could go an entirely new direction with Pigzbe, what would you do differently besides expand the age group it targets? Do you think it would be worthwhile to start a new venture that could have an innovative advantage over Pigzbe? Just something to think about. :)
