Zumi – Self-Driving Car Kit for Learning AI

By shuebrook on January 25, 2020

Whether you use Amazon Alexa, own a Tesla, play mobile games, or use Google Maps, artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere. Like coding, learning how AI works will soon become an integral skill in tomorrow’s workforce. Zümi is here to help make something that’s normally complicated into something approachable.

Zümi is the first educational self-driving car kit that will teach you about the concept of artificial intelligence and self-driving car technology in a fun and engaging way. With our friendly step-by-step tutorials, you will be able to train her on how to navigate through a miniature map in less than an hour. The more she learns, the better she’ll get.

And guess what? She won the CES 2019 Best of Innovation Award in the Robotics & Drone category!

Yes, I would invest in this product. However it is similar to a product i had seen already several years ago. Calles Thymio: https://www.thymio.org/ And this became a non-profit organisation called Mobsya. This solution came to the market several years ago and has sold the robot to numerous schools. Mainly as they understood the need but challenge for schools / children to get access to explore AI, Robots and Coding. I think Zumi is a great product, although their pitch is somehow week. Also as it seems to be addressed to the individual (not to an investor or for a B2B solution) - when becoming successful the business model needs to be scalable and just to have this as a b2c offer means that you need to sell a lot of Zumi's. Nevertheless a great scalable product.

Yes, I would back this venture 100%! This is like the Tesla for kids. Programs like this are lacking in elementary school systems across the country. I can see this being very useful for coding in elementary classrooms. I like that the A.I is easy to use and understand and that it also learns with you. It learns to recognize you, and how you are feeling. Happy or Angry. The fact that this won the CES 2019 Best Innovation award helped back my decision. One thing that was lacking in the presentation was the presence of the CEO or anyone who could speak on behalf of Zumi. However, once I started watching the video I fell for the car and would back it 100%.

I would 100% invest in Zumi venture for use in the classroom.   Zumi address the lack of resources and tech education in schools with hopes of providing a new platform that teaches students how to program AI with a self-driving car. This product was developed with the hopes of making stem education accessible by providing a cost product that allows you to explore a variety of coding options (depending on the skill of the students) and they provide step by step videos for quick set up and learning. This pitch does not include any competitor's products but addresses the product they already have out in the market. Zumi also received the CES innovation award for 2019. On the Kickstarter page, they provide an extensive list of media outlets were Zumi has been featured (ABC News, BBC News, NBC, USA Today Etc) From what I gather the Zumi will be available for sale everywhere there other products are. The website provides a list of the core team of this company. It provided a brief description but doesn’t go too into depth about their education or personal achievements in their field. On their Kickstarter page, they ask for enough revenue to order at least 1000 kits from the manufacturer to bring the coast down and take their product to the next step. Being that this is a Kickstarter pitch the return in investment is only when the consumer receives their product at a discounted rate.

YES, I would back this venture! I rated its pitch at 81%. Unlike my previous Pitch Pool contribution (Timio; 57%), Zumi seems to come from a company (Robolink) that knows how to present quite well. Please right-click on this link to see my analysis and scoring in a separate tab: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wOgNWZzThsuXcAfLuPQ8tYRpNyaXP21GZeTLDapDAKg/edit?usp=sharing
