Jeremy Keeshin – Co-Founder and CEO of CodeHS
Jeremy Keeshin is the co-founder and CEO of CodeHS, an online platform that teaches students computer science in an engaging way.
The platform allows students to navigate through learning activities depending on their background knowledge and pace. There are many resources available to help them start and maintain a thriving computer science program; a particular challenge given that the subject is generally underrepresented in high schools (citation needed). They provide a curriculum pathway for grades 6-12 in subjects like Python, JavaScript, web design, computing, and mobile app design. For teachers, they offer a one-stop-shop for delivery, managing lessons, grading, and planning, as well as professional development opportunities for teachers to build their learning.
Jeremy and his fellow co-founder Zach Gallant started CodeHS in 2012 after graduating from Stanford. Both hold computer science degrees and care deeply about the potential of computer science as a subject that is equally as important as reading and writing. They understand that CS on its own doesn’t do much to attract attention from would-be learners, and providing curricula that makes it fun goes a long way to getting students interested. Beyond having formal training in CS it doesn’t appear that Jeremy has much experience other than being a TA for CS106 at Stanford. Their team consists of four software engineers and three curriculum developers, and a whole host of other positions. They hold a variety of backgrounds but there seems to be a good blend of technology, education, and academic qualifications.
