AI and Machine Learning

By christopher spanis on March 22, 2020

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning are poised to make evolutionary and revolutionary changes in the education market.

Computers as we know them are really good at storing, organizing, fetching, and processing information.  AI takes computing a massive step further by having computer programs that are able to learn from data, make decisions, and even make predictions. Programmed with sets of rules to follow (algorithms), Machine Learning is a subset of artificial intelligence referring to the process of computers finding ways of performing tasks without explicit instructions on how to do so. While once only the stuff of science fiction, AI is now widespread and part of our everyday lives, through applications from email spam filters to customer service chat bots to digital assistants like Siri and Alexa to self-driving cars.

Opportunity Statement:

AI presents opportunities to support and augment the work of both educators and students; systems can automate administrative duties of teachers, provide feedback and assessments of student work, and generate warning alerts when students are in jeopardy. The emerging student experiences powered by AI will provide personalized learning, deeper and more nuanced than ever before – “Adaptive Redesign 2.0”, the next generation of personalized flipped-class learning!
