A3- The Potential of Writing Assessment Software
By adam brody on November 24, 2018
Automated technology has slowly been encroaching into our classrooms. Websites such as Khan Academy and Socrative have the capabilities of automatically assessing a large number of users at once. Many forms of standardized testing do not require an actual human being to grade the test. What about essay writing? Their are some ‘automated assessment softwares’ […]
The death of paper? E-Writers in education.
By adam brody on October 14, 2018
We’ve continuously heard of one day seeing a work place that is completely devoid of paper. Manufacturers of E-Writing tablets are attempting to make this a reality. Let’s inquire into the potential investment possibilities of a couple of these manufacturers. https://etec522ewriter.weebly.com
Tom Rollins – Founder – ‘The Great Courses’
By adam brody on September 29, 2018
Tom Rollins ‘The Great Courses’ What is ‘The Great Courses?’ In a nutshell, ‘The Great Courses’ could be considered the Netflix of learning. Currently they are an online video archive of recorded lectures ranging from a wide variety of subject matter. I use the term “currently” because upon its founding, 25 years ago, these lectures […]
Hackaball – A computer you can throw
By adam brody on September 20, 2018
I discovered this programable ball while browsing Kickstarter. The ball is durable enough that children can throw and catch it giving them the opportunity to truly physically interact with the device.
The Decline of Self-Paced e-Learning Markets
By adam brody on September 14, 2018
Over the past few years I have become well aware of the different types of ‘blended learning’ tools that are available on the market today. So much so that admittedly I had not truly noticed the glut of different platforms available today. Applications such as Nearpod, Blend Space and Class Quest are readily available and […]

Greetings everyone, My name is Adam Brody and I will be working on my 8th and 9th courses for the MET program. Currently, my family and I are living in Sutton Quebec which is about one hour south of Montreal. We just repatriated back to Canada after living for nine years, in the Middle East, […]

Hello Victoria, Thank you very much for your review. Just to touch on a couple of valid points that you mentioned. 1) For you concern about the assessment of qualitative traits. Although I have heard AI software engineers claim that AI will have the capabilities to assess qualitative writing I am dubious about the prospect that AI will be able to match the capabilities of a human anytime soon. My hope is that the assessment software could focus more upon the structural aspects of writing eg. (spelling, grammar, paragraph structure, transition words, etc.). It would still be the roll of the educator to focus upon craft. 2). Naturally text that is typed could still be assessed.

Hello Bryn, Thank you for your incite. I think you're completely correct in regards to your observations about spell check. Many of us, myself included, relay almost exclusively upon it to make up for our retched spelling. While many might simply brainlessly auto correct with spell check, it's my hope that a self correct option could be turned off by the teacher. This would allow students to continue to focus upon their written structure.

Review: Hello Victoria, I’m always interested in listening to new and innovative ways in which ICT can promote literacy. Well done for doing so with Beyond Reading. If I were an actually investor I would have a couple concerns that I would like addressed before I would provide your company with any capital. Firstly, I am a bit concerned with the sheer volume of competition that you would be facing. Online literacy programs, such as Epic and RAZ kids, already have a strong foothold in the market. With teachers and parents already familiar with programs, such as these, what would be your strategy in convincing them to change? I understand that your company provides a focus upon children with LD, but that brings me to my second query. You mentioned, in your pitch, that 3% of British Columbia school students have learning disabilities. Is that enough of the market to sway school boards into investing in a new online literacy program? It is clear that you are very passionate about providing an environment in which all students should be able to read. Coming from an investors perspective, however, I feel these issues do need to be addressed.

REVIEW Excellent pitch Reg! The prospect of implementing AR technology into are variety of institutions seems to increasingly greatly, especially as the cost of the technology is becoming more affordable. This, accompanied with the fact that an aging population will create an increasing number of retirees leaving the workforce. This, in turn, will create a larger demand for skilled-labour in industries such as telecommunications and manufacturing. Companies in these fields will have to implement effective strategies in order to properly train this workforce. You mentioned in your ‘platform’ that “the more users interact with AAIR, the better the training and feedback it will provide.” This is an intriguing characteristic of your product. Could you please provide a clear example of what this looks like? AR can also be implemented into a wide array of professions and training situations. One hurdle that your company might run into is creating enough differentiated content to allow a wide variety of users to establish emotional connections in order to make their training memorable. This would require significant invest in programming and software engineers. Baer, S. (2018, June 14). Are You Ready To Use Augmented Reality Or Virtual Reality To Train Your Workforce? Hello Scott, A very interesting premiss as I have not seen any applications that focus on the instruction of learning theory. Your elevator pitch made it clearly apparent that you are passionate about the subject. I have one question as a 'non-musician.' What are the key differences between 'learning theory' and simply learning to play an instrument?

REVIEW: Hello Katie, This is a very interesting premise. You certainly have presented a gap in the elementary educational market in a sense that we are constantly banging on about healthy food options with little opportunity for the students to 'take action' upon what they have learned. I was thinking that a possible strategy to interest investors would be to provide local grocery stores with an opportunity to provide discounted food into the schools. This, in turn, would hopefully help supplement the costs of the child's meal. In exchange the grocery chain would implement a marketing campaign, that would go out to the families, on the days in which they provide the meals. One problem that I can foresee with this product is the implementation in lower-income communities. According to an article written in Macleans Magazine Canada ranked 37th out of 41 countries, in a UNICEF report, in regards to providing nutritious food to children. Currently, we are one of only a few industrialized nations that do not have a national food program. Perhaps another way in which to drive Lunch Kit Chef would be to lobby governments, on a municipal, provincial and federal scale, to introduce further funding for nutritious food programs with communities. This would truly give this product the opportunity to have a positive impact upon our society.

Hello Phillip, FEEDBACK: Interesting product, especially since it takes on the approach on kinetic learning as opposed to the ICT approach which a majority are focused on. Seems to be a market that needless gets neglected.

FEEDBACK: Hey Ryan, Excellent job with your pitch. The story that you provided during your elevator pitch really drew me in to your product. I think because so many of us have an 'elder' involved in our lives that may not be the most technically savvy person gives many people something to relate to. It's the reliability which is great about this product. You don't have to be in any specific profession to understand potential of this product.

Dustin, You made a very convincing pitch. Your background and prior knowledge truly makes it apparent that you are very passionate about Indigenize Ed. From the way in which you spoke about how you wish to enter the market demonstrates you have done your 'due diligence' in regards to a business plan. As a potential business investor I was wondering what types of profits one might be able to see especially when dealing with public school districts that might already be 'cash-strapped' to begin with?
