Goverment 2020–examning future educatoinal trends
By ali hodroje on May 26, 2017
This is a wonderful site that I personally like to visit and was first introduced to a while ago. http://government-2020.dupress.com/category/education/ It is a website that assumes it is the year 2020 and thus discusses educational topics, themes, trends, that it assumes, or believes, will be used in the year 2020. While 2020 doesn’t seem that […]
Hello from B.C.
By ali hodroje on May 16, 2017
Hello everyone, My name is Ali and I currently am taking this course because I really am quite interested in the topic of emerging tech. As someone who constantly is trying to understand how to better relate material to their students, this is a topic that I have an eye open to. I recently took […]

Hey Shayla, I really enojoyed your website and pitch. I agree, this is a time consuming aspect of being a teacher. But I wished there was more on how your design differed from other companies. There are a few similar competitors, so that would have been nice to hear more about it. There doesn't seem to be a major gap in the market, so I think it is/was even more important for you to explain how you differ from the rest.

Hey, I really like the idea, but I found the overall presentation slightly frustrating. It was a bit hard to get the PP to work and when I did I foud that maybe some editing could have helped your pitch a little bit more. There was one case where I heard a phone beep go off. I wish there was more information about the actual app too. Information felt slightly thin on exactly how the app works, how it differs, etc. I also wish I knew what the gap was in this area, since there seems to be a lot of work on encouraging girls to join STEM fields already. Nice Idea however.

Wonderful work Rob. I always love coming to a pitch and then finding out: oh, I have this problem, wonderful now theres a solution for it. LIke you mention on your website, there are some similar compeititors out there, but I think you did a wonderful job explaining exactly how you guys differ. I do feel that this is a major issue for us teachers: there is simply too many tabs open on our computers hosting different issues. So I love the solution to this. Your site was easy to navigate and had all the material I would want. It also included answers to all of my questions. My biggest concern as an investor would be the rollout. 18 months seems like a long time to see a return, and the rollout itself takes quite a bit of time to actually begin (beta testing etc). I wonder if the product would work if there was already something more tangible for an investor to see. Other than that, wonderful stuff Rob! Thank you for your idea.

Hey Jakin, I really do love the idea you have presented here. I find much to be interested and intrigued by. You mention in your post that there are a few social spaces like these out but I quite like the gap you discussed. I would have loved to have seen more pointers on the dollars and cents, but I think I have the basic idea out. I wonder how partnering with other companies will hurt the returns for potential investors in your company, or how that would work out for me. These are some questions that I think are quite important to ask. I also wished your actual pitch was more detailed. It felt slightly bare bones. I wonder if a potential investor would be ''impressed'' by it. But nevertheless, great job on the idea.

Erin, I really enjoyed this pich--I also quite love the idea. But throughout the entire review process, I always thought to myself: why limit this to only physical spaces? Why not create a creative online commons for members of a school, or job? I agree 100% that physical interaction trumps the online community in many ways, but this was a personal thought. I would also have loved a little bit more on how I, as an investor, could benefit, or see a return. Will the certificate program be the biggest area for income? I am wondering, if this area becomes a sort of school like program, whether that might hurt the creativity? I know a lot of people who lose that spark when the work becomes put under a ''certificate'' program.

Great website, and most importantly, great videos! I also love the name of the venture..Cannew! I love everything--the ideas, the goals, the desire, etc. So, I suspect then, that I have to bring up some concerns. My main concerns are with the numbers. It seems by what you said that an entire team will be dedicated to reviewing the answers given at the initial meeting with the new client--how much will it cost to maintain this team? Is it volunteer based? If classrooms are also an issue facing new immigrants, don't these weekly meetings sort of resemble them? I personally find that in learning a new language, speaking with real people, getting over that nervous stage is the hardest part, how will Cannew address this? I also wished there was more about how the app works. Is it similar to Rosetta Stone, or Babbel? This is just for my own personal consideration.

Hey Amanada, Wonderful job on the two videos. My favorite thing is to know exactly the gap in the market and how you plan to fill it--you executed this wonderfully. I found it all to be also quite engaging. Your product really was well thought out. I love how you have it tailor made for other countires as well, so the jargon, or references, can be customized depending on where you are living. Game based learning is developing so quickly, that I would love to be able to invest in a product like this. My only concern is with the numbers. I would be interested in knowing how you came to a million dollar price tag. The amount of stake that that price also gets you seems questionable. The wait on return seems a bit long--does it include the 8-12 month rollout period as well? How exactly will I make my money back, if so many are not paying for the product?

wow Justin. Wonderful. I love your pitch it was so engaging--and introduced so many valid points. I once sent an email and, of course, in a hurry I used the wrong ''your'' and got crushed for it. The video could have been a bit shorter but other than that--wow. The website is incredible as well. My first question was, how does this differ from Grammarly and you answered it superbly. The rollout seems a bit long. I would hope, as an EVA, that I could invest in a prouduct sooner to launch, but it is still a great product. I wonder if the app section can be re-done. I know that as a teacher there are tons of apps that I wish I could ask my students to use, so adding one more might be a small concern for some. I also loved your use of educational ''theory''. Space learning is such an important concept that I am always surprised people are not more aware of it. Space learning, alongside a microlearning method, is how the next generation of workers and students will have to learn. Great work Justin!

Anna, what a wonderful website. Your pitch too was so calming and soothing to listen to. I enjoyed just going through your website, your kickstart information, and all the rest. I also think the idea behind this is so important. I love online classes but sometimes I forget that I have to get my blood flowing. There are a few thoughts that I had. Personally, I was not entirely convinced that this app was entirely different from other apps on the market. But competition is not an issue--just look at the multitude of competing apps on the market. How do I also make money? The asking price for a 5% stake seems quite high, and I am not sure if the return will be sufficient. I would have loved to have seen that fleshed out a bit more.

Hey Jeff, wonderful idea. I do think VR will soon become a major fixture in ED very soon, so I love the idea, if I were an investor, of jumping into a soon to be booming venture. I also loved your use of papers to justify your points. I will defintnly be reading those for my own personal use. Your last few slides are about the costs and revenue of the product, I would have loved to have seen a bit more detail since you introduced them. How much does it cost to use the said service, since you claim we will see a return in investment after four months. I also would love to have seen a ''here is how a grade 3 class can use'' the product. I never really felt like I knew exactly how the product was meant to be used. I think VR is the most exciting new venture and I really would have loved to seen your own vision for how it would have worked in class. I never felt like I understood your vision, and therefore it was hard for me to envision the product in a school environment.
