Week 11 Review
By Anne Winch on July 29, 2014
Hi Week 11, Thank you for an interesting view of 3D printing. I enjoyed creating my own 3D object and experimenting with various types of software. My husband is an engineering designer and uses 3D software all the time in his work, so it was interesting for me to get a taste of what he […]
Week 10 Review – Analytics
By Anne Winch on July 20, 2014
Hi Week 10, Great job all round! I did not know a lot about analytics or their importance up til now, but I have a greater understanding after going through the information on your site. I did like the idea of a checklist to make sure we had seen all the activities. Most of them […]
W9 Review
By Anne Winch on July 13, 2014
Great work group 9! I loved the way you used Edmodo as your platform for your topic. It is a great way to introduce everyone to it and allow us to explore other social media sites as well. I love using Edmodo and one of the reasons is that it is very easy to foster […]
Week 8 Review
By Anne Winch on July 8, 2014
Hi Week 8, You had a very interesting topic and your webpage was laid out neatly and was easy to navigate. There was a lot of information to absorb on your topic, and as most of us are not in this field, it was a little difficult to process it all. I liked the idea […]

By Anne Winch on June 29, 2014
Edmodo I decided to do my EVA on a platform that I have been using in my classroom and have found to be very effective, Edmodo. I have been using Edmodo for about four years and I am continually astonished at all the things that can be done with it. For an application that is […]

Hello from Ontario
By Anne Winch on May 14, 2014
Hi, my name is Anne and this is my second MET course. The first one I took was Research Methodologies, this one looks to be quite different. I am a little nervous about it. I am currently a middle school classroom teacher in Barrie, Ontario. I have been teaching grades 7 and 8 for twelve […]

Feedback: I really like the way you organized your elevator pitch, using the visuals and written information to enhance your audio. I did find that your pitch moved very quickly and at times, you were a little difficult to understand. I had to watch it a couple of times to get the whole gist of the presentation and I am not sure this would happen during a real pitch situation. I like that you went in a different direction and focused on health and safety of various work places. This opens you up to a variety of markets. I think you have a good idea that just needs a little more fleshing out.

Feedback: I really like the way you balanced your elevator pitch with a combination of graphics to enhance your personal explanation. Your voice was well modulated and easy to understand. I really like the way you asked people to imagine these things that you were presenting. This is a good way to hook your audience. I am not sure that this is a viable opportunity for education as it would seem to be an expensive proposition for most schools. Also, the educational benefits seem unclear, although I could see this used in special education applications. For someone who was unsure about this assignment I think you did a great job.

Feedback: I really love the idea of a media rich resume that helps save time when looking through applicants. i can really see that there would be a market for this in the corporate world, however, in education (in our Board anyway) many of the applicants are restricted by things like seniority, and experience. Principals are only allowed to interview the top 5 candidates in seniority that apply for the position. Your product would help someone in that position stand out. I liked the content of your elevator pitch but found that it moved a bit quickly and it needed something like music behind it to add zest. Emaze was new to me also, and it looks interesting enough for me to try it out. Good job overall.

Review: As a teacher that has a significant classroom library and who has been searching for different ways to keep track of this library, I would love to see how your app would work for me. One of the things that I would require most is the sign out feature of the app. I am not sure how this would work for yours. Does it tell the teacher when something is overdue, or notify the student? I wasn't clear on this, and it would be a selling feature for me. You did not clearly identify your competition. There are quite a few library type apps available that keep track of the books in a collection, however they do not have the sign out option that would be crucial for a teacher. Is there a maximum amount of books that can be scanned into the app before you have to upgrade or is it unlimited upon payment? I think there is definite potential for your idea to be developed and I would want to explore the possibilities further.

Review: Your elevator pitch was short and to the point, which leads to a definite interest in your idea. I love that it is a virtual Magic School Bus type of field trip and I think that students would enjoy this type of activity to augment the classroom curriculum. I am a little surprised at the cost and wonder how many schools would pay for it, especially as the cost of actual field trips are usually borne by the parents, not the school. I think you would need to find a way to make this much more affordable for the average school. The upside is that it would be able to be used repeatedly by new students entering that grade, so it would eventually pay for itself. I think you would need an aggressive marketing scheme in order to really sell it to the schools. Intriguing idea though.

Feedback: I think your idea of Pro-T is great. Teachers do need more differentiated and timely professional development. I found your video a little dark and stark. It would be more interesting to have some graphics to create more interest. Your voice was well modulated and easy to hear, but you seemed a bit awkward with your camera angle, but I understand trying to take a video of yourself can be difficult. I love the way you started off with a question about student success and then connected that with your product. I would be interested enough to take a look at your venture pitch to see how this would work.

Feedback: I really like the idea of your product and can definitely see how it would solve a problem in the online learning community. It could act as extra insurance that the students complete the course. Would it be offered automatically to each student who registers for the course in the districts that have adopted your product? Perhaps the cost would be included in the online registration fees. Thoughts to ponder. Your pitch intrigued me enough that I would want to learn more about how the product works.

Feedback: Your elevator pitch covered all the aspects of your venture very concisely. You described your idea, problem and solution in easy to understand terms. Your voice is well modulated, although very soft, which made it a little difficult for me to stay focused on your presentation. As a visual learner, some graphics to emphasize or support your pitch would have been beneficial and perhaps made your presentation a bit more dynamic. Your product sounds a lot like PBLU but just for BC. How would you stand up against this type of competition? You covered most of the basics, good job.

Feedback: Interesting and engaging video. I really like the iceberg analogy that you used for turning around completion of PD. It was very well put together and seamless in its delivery. It intrigued me enough to find out how SOOCs would be different from the MOOCs you compared it to in the video. I was also interested to see that you have already had success with this in the current market. Good for you. Nicely done!

Review: I thought this was an intriguing idea and was interested as to the answer to the questions posed at the beginning of the pitch. This is a good way to hook the viewer. I really like the idea behind the pitch and think that this is something that will be necessary with the increase in online information used in the classroom. It is difficult to judge how students are reading the online information and if they are understanding what they are reading. I like the use of the face icons as a way to indicate the student's grasp of the information. Easy to use and understand. You compare your product to some other education technologies such as Classdojo, but I had difficulty seeing how they connected as these products do not offer the same thing as yours. The cost of the product to the teacher seems to be a little high, I am not sure I would pay that much for an online resource. When you chose the teachers to pilot your product, were they complementary copies? How did you choose which teachers would be part of the pilot project? I think that your product would be useful for any teacher, particularly in the secondary panel, that requires their students to read online information. I think it is a great idea and can definitely see it having some success in the market.
