Just Right Reading
By Charmaine on July 25, 2019
For this assignment, I chose to invent my own program called Just Right Reading. As a result, this program is in the beginning stages of development. As a disclaimer, this is just an idea as there are no software developments currently produced. I’ve completed my project using google slides at the website found here. This […]

The program also provides a place for teachers to communicate with parents at home by sending individual messages, class announcements or attaching files such as monthly newsletters. Seesaw is currently used by […]

I came across this Kickstarter campaign elevator pitch to make whiteboards just like Rocketbooks!
Hello From Saskatchewan!
By Charmaine on May 8, 2019
Hi Everyone, My name is Charmaine Collinge and I am a grade 7 teacher in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. You may have heard of my city from the dispute we had with a city in Norway over who had the world’s tallest moose statue. It sparked a partnership between the two cities and now we have […]

Hi Jason, thanks for posting all of these questions! I think with the proper alogorithms a text's level of difficulty could easily be given if you wanted to have a collection of resources that were centered around a specific readability level. The reading comprehension questions would be created by teachers using the program as well as educators that would eventually join the Just Right Reading team. Yes, I realize my marketing/profits planning needed some more attention; I hadn't thought through details passed earning income based on subscriptions. Thanks for this feedback!

Hi Kate, that is a great question! Initially, I had planned on having schools sign up, but I can see the benefit of offering an option for individual teacher plans as a segway into school and division plans. Thanks for the great feedback!

REVIEW: Hi Sarah, I quite liked your idea as we’ve tried something similar locally at my own school. You provided some great information that really intrigued me! I like that you showed screenshots of what this program looks like and explained how it would work. My only suggestion would be to see if you can find some research data on how this would improve education, instead of telling investors that you want to have high schools help you prove that your product works. Other than that, I think you did a great job!

REVIEW: Hi Silvia, I really liked your idea for extended the program your group mentioned into the virtual reality realm! Your pitch was great and I feel like your venture pitch was incredibly detailed. I liked how you included information on everything from who this product is geared towards to your plan for the program and the types of offerings it provides. My only suggestion for improvement would be to include what you plan to use the money on. Overall, I think you did an exceptional job on this assignment and yours is a venture I would definitely invest in! Way to go!

REVIEW: Hi Vincent, Your elevator pitch piqued my interest and I was eager to learn more about your product in your venture pitch. While this is a service I have never needed, it was easy for me to see what the pain points were and how your product aimed to provide a solution. Your pitch was justified well and I thought you did a great job on your website. Your business model seemed well thought-out and the funding also made sense. I would have liked to have seen more explanation of the current market as I’m not familiar with it, as well as more information on the key players in the market. In addition, your venture pitch seems to be pitching to the users, not an investor. I would focus more on why investing in Hipogoo would be beneficial. With that being said, I do like that you’ve outlined some plans for the financing and future plans for the company. Well done!

I am very impressed by Zachary Sims! He is definitely an entrepreneur I am inspired by and would invest in! He saw a need for training people how to code and then truly seized the opportunity by jumping in with both feet and creating Codeacademy. I think it is very worth noting how he adapted his own company (by taking his own courses) after learning from previous jobs that a lack of understanding the user-experience can pose problems for the company. I truly believe that people who are the most reflective will become the most successful as they are always pivoting and adapting after their own successes and failures. There is no doubt in my mind that we will see more ventures from the dedicated Zachary Sims in the future, and I can’t wait to see what programs he comes up with next!

Åsmund Furuseth’s background seems extensive in the green energy sector and I suspect a majority of his lifetime’s ventures will take place in this category. I agree that his contribution to Kahoot must have been more capital as he does not seem to have a reason to invest in gamifying quizzes in the classroom. While Kahoot itself has been a great addition to my own classroom, I’m not as inspired by Åsmund Furuseth because he does not seem as innovative as other entrepreneurs nor does it seem like he will be a sustainable entrepreneur in the educational technology realm.
