By Jason on November 27, 2016
Dear all, Please find my venture pitch in the videos below. My venture is geared towards students with special needs. Assignment 1: Analyst Report on Edmondo
By Jason on October 17, 2016
Hello all, Please find my analyst report on Edmodo: click here As our students from a very young age are getting their hands on their parents smartphones or playing with tablets on their free time, I feel strongly that schools should have a strategy on preparing students to enter cyberspace. Teaching children the rules and […]

Hello all, I am looking forward to this course as I am keen to explore entrepreneurship. I actually wish that entrepreneurship was offered as a course in high school. I am seeing how there are so many ways that it applies to our lives. I am hoping to prepare myself for venturing into some type […]

Hello Bryan, You make a good point. $250,000 is not a lot of money but I always envision running a very small team and pushing out a new story a week during its first year in operation. Once the structure of the App is creating, adding content should be much more simple. The overhead is something that will eat into revenue for the first year until MyStory builds enough of a library to sustain itself. Thanks for the feedback.

Hello Vibhu, you are absolutely right. I actually considered a subscription service to ALL the stories once the library has been built to the point where it is a valid strategy. Like Joshua said, if my library is large enough, service provider may continually use the App for multiple clients and there will not be a need to buy each story. I believe in bringing the customer back with cost incentives. I wanted to keep the pitch simple.

Thanks Edwin, appreciate your feedback. Having some government connection would definitely be something I may consider but more as a way to market the App, unless they would provide a grant to allow my App the seed money to launch!

Hello Joshua, Firstly, I was going to do my elevator pitch in an elevator too, and illustrate how awkward it is...so when I saw yours, it was a hit for me. Secondly, I agree with you that the first places I would market is to the professionals. Having worked at an Intensive Behaviour Intervention clinic where the therapy is deliver to those with ASD, this is exactly what therapists and clinicians will be looking for. Good point and thank you for your comments.

Thanks for your endorsement. There is no video element to MyStory (although I did think about doing MyMovie). The user will have to frame the picture so that it fits into the illustration. Thus, the app may allow the user to take a picture within the MyStory so that the user may frame it perfectly with the illustration laid on top of it. Yes, different number of urinals is an issue, but the story will have general rules that will apply to most situations.

FEEDBACK: For the elevator pitch, I feel a voice over would have been able to deliver more information. The elevator pitch was selling me on the product but not selling me on why I should invest. On the venture itself, I fail to recognize how you will differentiate SLI from the other products that are on the market. There are so many resources that teach language, how does this product compare to what is out there already? I would not invest.

FEEDBACK: It looks like you have built a solid team and your pain point is clear. Initially I thought why can’t you just use a camera and send the video through to the safety assessment personnel but then I saw how you were providing purchases that could be made right in the app which is a great idea. Since your user base are the elderly, this is a fantastic idea since it merges safety with product. My concern is that at your price point, how do you pay for the person who does these assessments? Looking at paying the person who has to do the assessment of the videos, the 15 minute calls, or the live video conference, would be considerable more than the $4.50 for the premium account. Of course this does not factor in the possibility that you may earn a commission from every product sold, but from my point of view the labour intensiveness your app requires will mean high running cost. If you have some kind of government income, such as a grant, it would ease the cost of running the operation. I have to agree with Joshua about the name.

FEEDBACK: I have a huge question: why would someone volunteer to mentor through this program. If I am mistaken, then how do you plan to pay the coaches or mentors that will essentially be teaching the students. The low price point for the student is very attractive but I can’t see how that will pay for qualified coaches. It is a cool idea and an area that will allow for growth through innovation.

FEEDBACK: Social Media use is such a slippery slope, any educational material created is a step in the right direction. This is definitely a need, but did you explore if there are already products in the market in place? I disagree with you that the video will reduce the risk. What the video will do is reduce the chance of something happening through education, but the risk remains the same unless your boards bands the use of social media all together. The ROI you speak of are not measurable and thus it is much more like a preventative measure. All the points you bring up are important and guidelines and policies you write about are needed at every organisation.

REVIEW: Amazing presentation of your venture. It looks and feels so polish/finished, so bravo on such a job. I enjoyed the novel idea of using something like Spotify or the Streaming Music platform for company advertisement. And this is what it is, for companies to advertise how they grow and new projects on the horizon. If you aim for it to be more of a review of business, the question I would ask is who qualifies to do the reviewing and analyses? I was slightly confused by this since in your website, you noted that companies will be allowed to buy accounts that allow for playlists. So this means that the company will create the content and of course a company will portray itself in the most positive light, so that means that it is very much like an ad campaign and public relation media. If this is the venture, I would not invest since I have my doubts of people wishing to listen to adverts. I would invest under this condition: Build a framework of having independent business analysis done on fortune 500 companies, in depth breakdown of company strategy and position as well as its financial position. This is insight that I as a user or an investor will pay money to listen to. Also, up and coming startups may be the bread and butter to your platform. Seeing accomplished and established companies such as Canadian Tire or KPMG does not move the needle in terms of the return of my investment. They are blue chippers. What you need is a few home runs in the bank. What is exciting is listening to a company that is in the early development stage. They are in a market that is ripe for the picking and needs just a few strokes of luck to turn upwards and onwards. Where do I find this piece of nugget of intel….INVENTISITFY!
