Expressions
By Christopher Lee on November 27, 2015
Hi Everyone, Here is my one minute elevator and fully original venture pitch for a web based application called Expressions that I was working on. Expressions is a 21st Century lesson planning tool. It helps Educators generate an online interactive lesson plan document that can be easily printed, shared, posted, and integrated into any LMS. The […]
Vocational Safety Training – FOODSAFE.ca wk8
By Christopher Lee on October 29, 2015
Decided to do a write up on FOODSAFE.ca, which as it turns out is a BC based initiative. It is the joint collaboration effort between various sectors: government, business, health, safety, and education. The reason I chose FOODSAFE, was because I see an increasing number of high school students today having jobs relating to the […]

Hi From Vancouver, BC
By Christopher Lee on September 13, 2015
Hi everyone, just really got to look at the course content today in depth and it looks quite interesting. I like the fact that we are experimenting with a (WordPress) Weblog, it changes the atmosphere a bit, and I’m kind a curious how I can apply it to my own process. Anyways here is my […]

Feedback: I like the idea Susan. Given that you know and work in this industry you have clearly identified a need that you probably know well. I believe your app / software definitely has potential, especially if it is in line with an institution like the Colleges of Nurses. Like many of the comments below have also noted, I think this app can have a much larger potential target market given its uses. For example why not the BC college of teachers, lawyers, etc. In essence it could be a tool for industry professionals of both trade and academia.

Feedback: Love the pitch Daniel, it was simple and directed to teachers. The reason why I believe your pitch / venture has a good probability of succeeding is because of it's simplicity in solving a need. As an educator I already have to deal with a mountain of paperwork and don't need more complex software which I only use a fraction of, like BCESIS or MyEd. I just want a simple tool to make my job easier, reports. Your tool is familiar with educators because it is google based and accessible which makes it extremely flexible. Lastly if priced at a one time fee I would buy it. However I would have liked to hear more about your revenue model.

Feedback: Looks like you have a lot already invested into this TALO program and have received some positive feedback. However like some of my peers below have commented, online courses are now common place and to some extent market saturated. Many of your best practices are now being implemented in various forms across different institutions. My concern is that a stronger case needs to be built around why funding should go to TALO versus many other similar programs, especially versus public institutions if your target audience is the provincial government. Perhaps opening up TALO as a mini workshop / course for all educators would be a better choice, given that you are purporting best practices of a system.

Feedback: Interesting idea of creating VR assets for various industries. Again I am not too familiar with VR, but found your pitch interesting. However asking for 8 million in the educational industry is a stretch. As many of your examples have shown there is definitely interest in the Entertainment, Gaming and Design industry which can support that kind of a budget, but feel that the such assets can still done at a more cost effective price point. Given that technology / digital content advances so fast I believe many of your proposed assets can likely be curated from alternative sources. (ie open source development)

Feedback: Hi Daneille, I really like the idea of a more user friendly (avatar) & skills based profile that follows students through post secondary. I can see this as a new form of interactive assessment and interactivity for students too. When I think about it, schools have profiles on learner's anyways, why not give them a chance to actively see and visualize how they are doing. I guess this could be a modern day report card. With regards to your revenue model, have you thought about targeting schools/teachers instead. (ie Get schools to buy into this system and integrate it into their model of assessment and tracking student work.)

Feedback: Your idea is an interesting one considering that many post secondary students today report that they still can't find jobs in their field of study. I definitely see a need for your app, but it is a crowded market space, and as you mentioned there a plenty of free apps / government funded site that do the same thing. Perhaps adding jobs or business connections element to it might better differentiate your product. (ie career path + linkedin)

Feedback: You have some good market and trend data that supports your claim of VR in general, could bolster pitch with more potential examples of how it could be used more concretely in a classroom.
