Venture Forum: Science Labs Plus
By claychri on July 24, 2016
Science Labs Plus For my venture, I have created a fictitious online software program called Science Labs Plus. This program sets students up for success by giving them the correct lab format, where they can easily fill in all of the steps of the scientific method for any experiment they can dream up. The […]
Analyst Report: Seesaw

Please click on the link below to view the Wix Website I created for my Analyst Report on the Application called Seesaw. http://christinemargaretc.wix.com/seesaw I chose to research this app because it is one that is used by the teachers of my children in the Kawartha Pine Ridge (KPR) school board in Ontario. I personally love […]

I appreciate the time you took to research how to do this assignment correctly. I am impressed by long list of references as well! The elevator pitch is well done with excellent visuals. I think that your idea is very similar to Jordan’s LBL or location-based learning. Unfortunately, you need to make the youtube video for the venture pitch public so that everyone can see it! I think that you have a great price point. It is interesting that you are having teachers and students pay right away. I think that you should offer the app for free at first so that more people will try it out.

This is a fabulous idea with a limitless market since supposedly most people in this day and age will have 10-14 different jobs and change careers 3-5 times. The elevator pitch really captured by attention. For the venture pitch, I personally find it annoying that each section of the website opens in a new tab. There are a few spelling/grammatical errors as well. Is it true that Mobility does not make money unless you do? That is risky. How will you find out if someone has been successful using your product? It reminds me of setting up a case with a personal injury lawyer because they don’t get paid unless you win! The business model, as you say, still needs proof of concept. Nice work!

Your elevator pitch is clear and succinct. I love the high contrast and the use of Videoscribe. The venture pitch does a good job of posing scenarios and offering solutions. I don't think that many companies, especially small start-up companies could afford this training. I thin they would just need to do their own research online and ask colleagues about various LMSs that are available to help them to select the right product. I feel that this is a great idea for the already-rich, who probably don't need any support. However, I do not work in the business world. I a K-12 educator, so perhaps I am missing something here. Either way, excellent work on the presentation of your ideas!

This is a very interesting idea. I did not even realize that forest schools existed. I would love to be able to teach my K-12 students in this manner. It is sad that students cannot name many species of plants in the communities in which they live. This type or program would bring students back to nature. I love it! Based on the data you provide, if people invest in your LMS, you could have a very profitable product indeed. I agree with Michael that Brightwheels and Seesaw are similar and could be your competitors, but I like the way this is branded towards your particular learning environment. It seems to have a really clear and simple method for attendance, documenting evidence, and reporting.

Rodney, you have the perfect voice for narration. Your elevator pitch is interesting. I like the high contrast and simplicity. It is very effective. Your idea is excellent. The best way to learn languages is to be immersed in the culture, speaking to locals. However, mistakes can be embarrassing and travel is not always possible. This product is an excellent way to gain practice. It is very forward thinking to merge gamification with alternative reality and language acquisition. Your venture pitch is very well done. I appreciate how you have shown your competitors and market plan. I particularly liked the table that you used to compare your competitors. Well done!

Wow! This venture pitch is very professional-looking. I can see that you are serious about this! You have an excellent idea here. I am not a doodler here, but I know the importance of copying down chemical equations and food webs for science class and I have recently learned the importance of concept mapping for constructivist learning. As an EVA, I would definitely invest in this idea. I love that it can be used on many devices. I love how you can add to your drawings at a later date and can doodle with you finger or stylus (I am not a doodle but appreciate that many others are). Excellent work on the different layouts and visuals for the app. I agree with Noan that having options to share files would make the app even more desirable and that Freemium is the way to go. This pitch is very detailed and well thought-out. Great work!

There is a grammatical mistake in the introduction (should read "committing to their own companies"; not "commit to their own companies.) Your reflection is excellent. Your elevator pitch is interesting and engaging with the dialogue and visuals you used, but there are some grammatical errors here too. I am very impressed by this idea and the website you created for your venture pitch! You have excellent information about competitors and marketing! I would like to hear more about the cost of the product and how you are different from your competitors.

The visuals in your elevator pitch are fantastic. Your elevator pitch runs a bit long though and your venture pitch is too similar to the elevator pitch for my pitch (I felt myself losing interest watching them back to back). I feel that you are a credible founder and CEO for this company due to your background with Apple and that you have a solid market plan. I love that you have already merged with a software developer! Integration of this app would work with greater internet connectivity in schools. You make excellent point about student interactivity and professional development for teachers.

I think that this is an incredibly timely and engaging app for teachers and students. I can imagine that it would be very popular in the classroom and on field trips! The buy-in from educators could be enormous! I can just imagine students using this app for their scavenger hunt in their first year of high school or elementary school students finding items on a nature walk! Similar to our colleagues below, I have 2 concerns. My first concern is that with an opensource platform there will be the potential for data mining and random commenting. How will we ensure that the students are protected? The local historical society would likely be too overwhelmed by the demand of this task! My second concern is that it may be difficult to accurately match items with locations based on current glitches in the Pokémon program (although I expect that these will be ironed out soon. Nice job on your pitches. I like how you annotated them on this site.

Hi Mark, I think that this is a fantastic idea! I would invest in this product. I am very interested in using 3D printing with STEM or STEAM iniatiatives and I agree with you that many teachers would be interested, but feel intimidated by the technology. Nice work on the venture pitch! It is very detailed and convincing. The elevator pitch is very informative and effective, but could be made more exciting with music or visuals in my opinion.
