A3 – Venture Pitch
By courtneyoc on August 3, 2014
Elevator Pitch: Venture Pitch: O’Connor Venture Pitch This project was an interesting experience. I decided to take an already existing venture that I have used many times and took it in a new direction. I enjoyed the ability to creatively construct my own venture pitch and bring to (sort of) life one of my ideas. While […]

ETEC 522 Analyst Report – O’Connor I decided to do my analysis on Glogster. Glogster is a platform that I have used a few times in the classroom and I wanted to know more about its product. I currently use the free subscription and have had great success with it in the classroom. It was […]

Review: Hi Kuljinder, This is a neat idea, it immediately reminded me of a real life production/creation of the magic school bus. I like the idea of a virtual realm to give students the idea of actually being there. Your product is more comprehensive and enjoyable than simply watching a video or documentary. As an investor I would be a bit apprehensive as to how many schools would pay $4000 for 30 headsets and one game. I suppose though this would be able to be shared amongst multiple classrooms. I like that you're in a market of your own, but also view this as a high risk investment due to the uncharted waters in the educational field. I do appreciate your imagination in this product, and really appreciate how you've brought something to life that has a great amount of detail and specifics.

Feedback: Hi Peter, this was an interesting venture to look at. I had never heard of Jibo before so I was in unfamiliar territory with robotics. Because of that I appreciated that you included an overview of the product and its potential. I thought your website was well designed and I appreciate the effort you put into creating two videos and the website. It did take me some time to find your elevator pitch - mostly because at first I didn't take the time to scroll down to the bottom of your first page.

Feedback: Hi Nick, I'm glad I had the opportunity to review a variety of ESL ventures for this assignment. While this market is growing there seems to be very few programs that fit to teachers/learners needs. I think your program is a great idea in that it allows for personalized learning for an individual or a class. I really enjoyed the name for your business and think that its very appropriate given the current market.

Feedback: Hi James, Don't worry - you're not alone in your feelings about this assignment. It's really difficult to put yourself out there, but I believe you did a great job with your pitches. I appreciated that you selected a blank wall to do your filming in front of and that you were dressed professionally. I also really enjoyed your idea for your venture. In University I remember handing in my papers to turnitin.com. While plagiarism is a huge concern within teaching, many students are unaware of the consequences.

Feedback: Hi Laura, this is a really great idea. I think you've presented your idea well and have offered a product that could be easily used by many institutions/school districts. One thing that I would like to see is a price point for your subscriptions. You mentioned a tiered subscription, but how much are they? As many schools will already be paying quite a bit of money for their already standing online courses, how much more will they pay for your product? However if your subscription is reasonable enough for you to profit and for them to ensure that their investment in your product ensures more retention rates then the cost will balance out.

Feedback: Hi Maxim, This was a really neat idea and I really like how you've taken a passion of yours and turned it into a potential investment. I think I agree with many others that starting it out as a free paid with paid options would help increase the amount of subscriptions and potentially help build your data base. Either way I enjoyed the visuals of both your elevator and venture presentation. A couple of times on your prezi I needed to focus in more to read some of the information.

REVIEW: Hi Nidal, I was really impressed with your venture pitch for this presentation. I commend you for getting your elevator pitch under 1 minute but I think there is a difference in engagement between your two pitches. While your elevator pitch was informative, it was not as engaging as your venture pitch. This could be a problem for potential investors as they might not move on and would ultimately miss out on your compelling venture pitch. As an investor I'm very impressed that you included a live demo. The idea of BYOD and using an LMS device within a classroom is highly lucrative. I'm a bit unclear as to what the difference is between student end-user and student dealer. Would you consider having subscriptions for teachers? Or whole classrooms? Perhaps this is already what you mean, but I'm uncertain. While you offer a completing different product from other LMS systems, many of them - Edmodo, Schoology offer a free subscription. While these free subscriptions don't offer many of the paid lucrative services, how can you assure investors that your customers will leave their potential free services and continually renew their paid subscriptions? Once this is established I would be likely to invest in your product. I think you've stumbled upon a great idea here that could revolutionize learning in the classroom.

Feedback: Hi Leah, I think you have a great idea brewing here. I've taught a couple of ESL classes and as its not my field/background I also find that a lot of the resources out there cater to young children and don't actually challenge my students to further their learning/language skills. Your passion is clearly evident in your pitches. I thought it was impressive that you completed a website, video and a PDF presentation. Should you be able to get this venture off the ground I'd be interested as a consumer! My only suggestion is that your elevator pitch is quite long. I had trouble keeping mine under one minute as well, but given that its a quick intro to your product, some investors might not be interested to watch that long.

Feedback: Hi Milorad, I think you chose a creative way to deliver your pitches. I appreciated that it felt like an actual presentation/pitch delivery. I believe its evident that you have done your research and are well knowledgeable in the field. You've also done an excellent job of making sure you've covered all your points that an investor would be looking for. As many people have pointed out some of my thoughts already, I'll avoid repetition. The only advice I would have to give is that on some of your slides they are quite text heavy and bit difficult to read through the video.

REVIEW: Hi Kendra: I really enjoyed reading and watching your pitches. I thought you did an excellent job with your elevator pitch, especially situating your product against other competitors/technological devices and showcasing its need in the market/education. I think your experience is highlighted in both the website and video. Since you're currently developing this program for school districts I think your ability to know its strengths and weaknesses and how it actually works in an educational setting/school district furthers your credentials and makes you trustworthy and appealing for potential investors. On your website I was particularly drawn to your "the deck" tab. This section is a creative way to cover all your points. I also enjoyed how you employed a variety of mediums to deliver your message - text, audio, visuals, etc. This makes the presentation aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable. One thing that I struggled with as well was keeping the elevator pitch under one minute. It becomes difficult to select which items are the most important to get across as your audience varies between investors.
